    Overview

Wingo is a shade undersized, but his tape is fun to watch. He is compact and powerful, with the ability to separate and play off of lateral blocks quickly. He can be overcome by length or mass at times but is rarely dominated. He has first-step quickness and processing to beat blockers to erase their landmarks and is tremendously agile as a short-space tackler. Wingo has a hop-and-chop rush move typically seen from defensive ends and will be too athletic for some guards to handle as a pass rusher. Wingo could become an early backup as an even-front 3-technique but he has three down-potential and could eventually become a starter. Strengths
    • Hustles to beat the blocker to the spot.
    • Uses hands and power to work across lateral blocks.
    • Good bend and base strength to challenge a downhill block.
    • Above-average reactive athleticism with short-area quickness.
    • Experience rushing off the edge expanded his skill set and process.
    • Lateral quickness and leverage create rush wins into the pocket.
    Weaknesses
    • Undersized and can be smothered by bigger blockers at times.
    • Widened off the spot by angle blocks, allowing lane to grow.
    • Punch-and-shed action at point of attack can be labored.
    • Rush can become too straight-legged into contact.
    • Longer guards can slow his upfield charge with early hands.

Lions give up 205 and 249 to go up and get this guy.

Would assume that injuries played a part in Wingo falling this far? 3 LSU DTs drafted so far and Wingo is the 3rd. Somewhat surprised considering their defense was a dumpster fire last season. The other position groups must have stunk.

He wore the #18 jersey at LSU. Seems to have good quickness. Makes sense to build out more camp competition and depth at DT.

Nice rotational player. Has some twitch and can provide some interior pass rush juice. To get him in the 6th is very surprising.

Their secondary stunk like a trash bin in August down here.

Daniel Jeremiah ranked him at 116, which is mid-4th

NFL Stock Exchange (PFF Draft experts)

Connor had him ranked #114, Trevor had him ranked #131.

Getting him at 189 is impressive value. Basically, we are getting a guy with starting upside at DT in the 6th round. Totally worth the trade-up. He's obviously a 3-tech, but no argument here.

PFF Day 3 talk link should take you to the Mehi Wingo discussion. Again, they love the pick, think the Lions got a better player than several teams that drafted DT rounds earlier.
