Just because he wasn't good as a rookie, doesn't mean he won't be good. That he wasn't ready to play in year 1 isn't exactly a surprise. No one assumed he cold play the part in year 1.

When you pick a developmental pick, you are saying he isn't going to be ready in season 1. Most third round rookie DTs are not going to be as.good as late stage Tyson Alualu. The big heavy dude in the middle takes a while to develop. It's one of the hardest positions to find players and/or develop them.

It's a "world" draft pick. There are only so many humans in this world with this size and these athletic traits. When Holmes finds one and discovers a compatible personality, then he's going to draft them. We have to wait and see if they pan out.
Even if they don't, he's hit on enough other picks that he's still a great drafter.
