If we didn't already have a dude there, I'd love him with our 2nd.

And therein lies the rub. It's not that Sainristil is a "project" or whatever. It's the Lions already have someone at that position who is already playing at an exceptionally high level. Branch was one of the best nickel backs in the league, much less among rookies. We're talking about a dude, who as a rookie in the playoffs, was asked to cover a guy who had been the Super Bowl MVP just two years before... and damn near shut him down entirely.

That's why I roll my eyes at any mock draft that has the Lions taking Mikey. It's not that Mikey is bad. It's that the Lions are already that good at the position he plays.

I'm not sure about the mocks, because I don't pay attention to them, but every year there is a lot of regional bias leading to the draft.

Our favorite players always look better than the other guy's favorite players.

He's a 5'9 180lb CB that's only played the position for 2 years. He was really good at Michigan but he's going to get destroyed by bigger WR's in the NFL. Too many blue chip players dominate positions in college and get ate up in the NFL. Sainristil has a ton to learn and with his height and weight he's def a project. If anyone can do it, it's him but I wouldn't touch until late in the 3rd round.

He has size limitations, but there are plenty of successful CBs in that size range. He’s a going to be a slot corner not playing outside. The fact that he’s so good despite playing only 2 full years at CB in college is a feature, not a bug. He was all Big Ten and All American in some case. PFF has him as their #1 slot corner.

Success doesn’t mean you have to be an all pro or pro bowl level player. He may not have that upside but who knows. Top level slot corners are an incredibly valuable role in the current NFL.

4 of those guys listed are similar in height and weight.
The Next Gen Stats analytics team ranks the top 10 slot defenders entering Week 11 of the 2023 NFL season. While one veteran stands out above the rest, a rookie is clearly making an immediate impact on the league.

Perfect.. Now where were they drafted? Most were late round picks or undrafted FA.

I'm not sure why Jad is so angry about the subject, so weird. He is a Michigan fanboy!

He asked a question and is furious about the answer.

You mean the 6ft 200lb first team all american safety who's one of the surest tacklers in the NCAA? Who was also projected to be in the first round? Yeah I'd have had no problem drafting him there.

Yes I love Michigan but this is about the Lions and them going to the SB. Sainristil was a middling WR who made a positional change and thrived at DB but I'm not drafting him in the first 2 rounds. After that? Sure why not.
