Yes, sorry, that is correct isn't it, because.... they got a TD AND FIELD GOAL, DAN! A FIELD GOAL! REMEMBER THEM?!

    And breath. Relax. Go plumb.

I'll be over it tomorrow, but I needed a day of mourning today, lol. It hurts worse today than last night, I think. Because it has officially sunk in. And to be up 17 at the half...thinking about that 3rd quarter implosion hurts, man.

        Damn.

I'm not sure this is a thing to get over in a year or two.

Anyone that was around during the Red Wing mania of the 90s will probably remember. All of those early round exits were absolutely dreadful, painful affairs. It lasted for years, the only saving grace is you were somewhat assured they were always going to be a top team and at one point where they could possibly break through for a title and it did in 97.

There is no assurance in the NFL that it happens. You have a few teams that stay around the top, but nobody knows if the Lions are that team because there are many more that flash for a couple of seasons and burn out.

It's probably hard to describe to someone who didn't experience it themselves how big it was in the 90s. The Wings are afterthought nowadays.

Yeah, going to be awesome for years to come that when anytime somebody goes down big in the first half of a conference championship they'll bring up nice graphic showing this game.

Read this quote somewhere on the net today.....

"We were up 24-7. 24-7!! And as a Lions fan, I feel pain, 24-7"

Can see the humour in it, but it's actually true.

I guess I was just kinda figuring the bottom was going to fall out with this team at some point, and I'm mildly surprised they got this far that I'm just not that upset about it.

My companion at the watch party noted that I was "so calm about this." I told her pop her head on this forum sometime to dispel THAT notion.

This really wasn't the Lions' window. I felt that way at the start of the season, and I still feel that way. They simply lacked too many critical pieces for me to think they had a championship run in them.

And this is where the real challenge for Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes start. The team is right on “schedule” if we take Brad Holmes words for it.

The Lions are just now learning how to win and just tasted some success. Now they have that blueprint on how to build a good team. Now the next step is to build a championship contender.

You just hope that this loss doesn’t break Dan and the regime goes downhill from here.

Perhaps this might be the case, but they were up 24-7 at half to go to the Superbowl. And the Chiefs are not of vintage variety. The pathway was there but like we were saying all year to make that kind of run they needed to continue scoring. The offense blew it.

Easier said than done. Finding a really good cover corner and a good edge rusher is hard.

Yeah, and they were kinda lucky just to get that far.

Holmes may very well stumble at the final step. He hardly would be the first or last GM to do so. But that doesn't change the fact that THIS team was deeply flawed, and any hope this was "their year" was a bit of a mirage.

                            • Ceedy Duce laid a deuce last night. Not real keen on bringing him back, but the beat writers constantly talk about the energy he brings to the team.
