There were a few plays in the Bucs game that are a perfect example of the difference between this team and SOL.

    - Buggs getting his mitt on that pass was a 10 point swing. That pass is completed against the SOL.
    - St. Brown's TD would have been short of the 1st down and a field goal for the SOL.
    - Goff flat out missed on that TD to Jamo, but his miss was good enough to still be a TD. Mayfield flat out missed on two deep throws, but his misses were long and there was no chance for his guy to make a play or draw a P.I.. Mayfield = SOL.

How many years (decades?) did we hear the Lions need playmakers on both sides of the ball? This team has some, and even the guys who aren't difference-makers (Buggs) are making plays.

The most underrated additions the Lions had were the trio of Buggs, Jones and Cominsky. Two waiver claims and a small free agent signing in the summer of 2022. It's crazy how productive they have been.

I always felt the 2014 defense was overrated despite being ranked high and and putting up good stats.

I would argue Goff less missed the throw as much as he missed the best opportunity to throw it.

For when he threw it, that pass was actually nigh perfect. He put that ball right in the corner where only JaMo really had a legitimate play on the ball. But if Goff had thrown that ball just a beat earlier, JaMo skips into the endzone with how badly out of position the Bucs safety was and how badly JaMo had him beat.

Now, with that said, JaMo was likely not the primary read on that play. Usually when you have a three level stack like that, the middle guy is the primary read, and so Goff likely reacted on the spot when he realized just how badly JaMo burned that over the top safety.

The key to that play is the silent count. Check out the video, they go though a lot of plays, the bomb is the end one but some of the earlier plays detail Dean and his disguising his coverage. The silent count gets him out of coverage for a step.

As far as missing the throw, when you are throwing it 57 yards in the air, you are more likely to get it close than pin perfect. Especially throwing it to the corner from mid field. The receiver is going to have to make some sort of adjustment. Complete throws of that distance are rare.

This pass in Green Bay last year was pretty darn close to perfect, even across his body. I remember thinking, “Damn. Goff can do that?!”

I want to order a jersey with the name Villain on the back. What number should that be?

Another Brand New Lions trait - the Brand New Lions are taking other team's cast offs and making them good. Josh Reynolds, Buggs, Cominsky. Instead of drafting players and them either not being good (Van Noy, Tavai) and Belichick hoovering them up and them looking either good or at least passable, other teams are wondering how the Lions are getting production out of their cast offs.

The coaching is good and players are improving.

110%, when all is said and done, taking the rough with the smooth and for all intensive porpoises, ….., couldn’t agree more.

                            From that standpoint.

I have not been more optimistic about a Lions team through 6 games ever. Dating back to 2004 of course. It’s been mostly all positive momentum during the last 12 months. What a stretch!

Year and Lions record through 6 games:
                              2004, 4-2
                              2005, 3-3
                              2006, 1-5
                              2007, 4-2
                              2008, 0-6
                              2009, 1-5
                              2010, 1-5
                              2011, 5-1
                              2012, 2-4
                              2013, 4-2
                              2014, 4-2
                              2015, 1-5
                              2016, 3-3
                              2017, 3-3
                              2018, 3-3
                              2019, 2-3-1
                              2020, 3-3
                              2021, 0-6
                              2022, 1-5
                              2023, 5-1

The positive start Millen teams seemed cautiously optimistic, but not comparable. 2011 was AWESOME because the Lions also finished 2010 well. Stafford, Calvin, and Suh as elite young talents. I can’t remember if the 4-2 start felt better in 2013 or 2014. Wheels fell off the train for Schwartz’s last team. 2016 was a rocky ride… felt really good by the end of the season as Stafford received some MVP buzz. Stupid finger injury hurt that team… there were some talent deficiencies there too when compared to better Lions teams.

The horse has expired at this point, but Goff himself said he missed the throw.
