Goff has been a top 10 QB maybe even higher for awhile now. I think he’s only going to get better. He’s hitting a stride and he deserves credit. We can’t take the success and just say Ben Johnson did it.

Goff has done what we always wanted Stafford to do here. We always wanted to see Stafford elevate the game with lessor talent. When Stafford would lose CJ or Tate he’d struggle.

With the exception of St Brown and LaPorta, Goff has had an island of misfit toy WRs. I never liked Goff from the time he was picked until the time that he came here but this is a different player. Finding a top 5-10 QB is shit hard. Ask the other 27-22 teams.

    MaHomes
    Hurts
    Josh Allen
    Herbert

Id struggle beyond those players to find anyone playing better. Who am I missing?

And if he keeps playing like he has, it will be closer to the top end of that than the bottom, unless he takes a rare hometown discount.

The interesting thing to me will be the number of years. I can't see him taking less than 4, but who knows.
That's what I figure as well. He'll get paid, but I also suspect there will be a good chunk of it paid more up front in case the Lions think Hooker can be the guy in 2-3 years.

Forgot about Purdy.. what a helluva story he is. And I don’t think the people in SanFran think it’s just the system. They like him

To me the far more interesting possible extension is not Goff but rather Decker.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

The guy’s stats say that he’s a top five QB. They have to keep him, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
            3,062 carries, 15,269 yards, 5.0 yards/carry, 99 TD
            10x Pro Bowl, 6x All-Pro, 1997 MVP, 2004 NFL HoF

QBs that most NFL fans objectively would probably rather have over Goff:

              Lamar
              Josh
              Joe
              Dak
              Trevor
              Patrick
              Matthew
              Tua
              Jalen
              Brock

He'll get paid, people will cringe at the price but they aren't factoring in the cap will.be 320 million by 2027. It won't be a big deal.

People can make all the lists they want, but you aren't letting Goff go to pick up someone on your list. You would be letting him go take a ride on the QB carousel in the draft where most of the seats are trap doors.

I can’t stand Dak’s game and Stafford is barely walking. I’d stick Goff around #7.

Lawrence might end up being a top tier QB but he’s really hit and miss right now

He's been the lead QB on a top 10 offense almost his entire career. People who undervalue him think about his disastrous last season in LA when his head coach unfairly made him the scapegoat (Don't get me started).

I saw an interesting stat before the year started that Goff actually has one of the better abilities to escape the rush in the NFL. Think about what we saw between Goff & Love last game. Love may have better physical agility, but he doesn't have the awareness of Goff while looking to pass and it showed.

It helps explain why he's been remarkably durable over his career.

Here's how I'd break down the top QBs in the NFL
Top Tier: Mahomes, Allen & Burrow
2nd Tier: Herbert, Jackson, Lawrence, Stafford & Prescott
3rd Tier: Goff, Tagovailoa, Smith & Hurts

That 2nd & 3rd tier are really close and can mix and match. I am comfortable putting Goff at top 8.

                          Jalen
                          Brock
It's not a bad list, but Brock shouldn't be on it. Tua probably not either. He's being over-rated for recency bias on one great game by the Miami offense.

If you asked GMs who they would pay more, Stafford wouldn't be on it because he's never healthy any more. Lamar would probably still be on it, but there are definitely long term health concerns.

So, now we agree that he should be top-8 in pay :-)

I still can’t believe Geno Smith. Dude plays like Tom Brady and Michael Vick had a love child that made it to the NFL to purely screw us.

Goff, Tua, Hurts and a healthy Stafford are second tier. Hell, a healthy Tua and Stafford may be first tier.
Dak, Lawrence and Smith are third.

I'm still not sold on Burrow, but the talking heads sure are. Of course they've been selling Love as the next great packers QB too

Stafford 2 years ago maybe but he’s balsa would right now and he’s one of my all time favorites.
