Unfortunately I think Goff is going to command 50 mil a year. Hell Murray is getting something like 46-47. That’s crazy.
Maybe he’ll give us the 45 mil per that MaHomes gave KC
F#*K OHIO!!!

50 million a year is going to be the going rate for quarterbacks. By 2027 the cap will be at 320 million dollars. If you just do quick and dirty figures with APY, 50 million works out to 16 percent in 2027. It's a little over where Stafford and Calvin were in 2016. It just seems like a much bigger figure because the salary cap will have doubled.
The fact is, the Lions look like contenders for at least the next couple years, teams in that strata do not commit to OJT to a rookie or scouring the scrap heap for a cheap alternative.
Sure looking like we bought low and sold high in the Stafford trade.
It’s one of the few trades that both sides won.

What's unfortunate about that? That we don't have to worry about the most important position for the next 5 years? Ah, shit!
Yeah I’m ok with it. Goff went from a 3rd string Qb that didn’t look great his last year in LA to one of the best, most efficient QBs who’s perfect for this team.
Outside of Barry, Stafford was my favorite Lion of all time. Goff has surpassed him in my mind and he has this team on a really special path that we haven’t seen before.
Just keep him here

I thought so too. McVay really screwed up on that one. Probably cost the Rams decent compensation back instead of being a salary dump.

But regardless McVay got his ring so he shouldn’t be upset in the least.

The few "good games" was sarcasm. What I don't always agree with is giving guys early extensions all the time in the middle of the season. Unless you are damn near positive you are going to get a good deal. Goff is going to get what he is worth and right now it is alot.
I think Goff is happy here.Do I think he is going to play btter with a better attitude with an extension right now? Nope, I don't.
Too much football yet to play. We all know what can happen in a season. We have seen too much of it already. He's under contract. I would just wait until the seasons over.
The only benefit to doing it now vs after the season is having a bigger window of time to re-allocate next year's 5m roster bonus. So for 4m more in cap if he's extended another 4 years as that spreads to 1m per year in bonus. Signing bonus money can't be restructured. Just base salary and roster bonus.
He's playing currently at a level that would net him being the new highest paid QB. Or at worst second if the team can argue Watson got more than he should due to leverage. No amount of winning could change that. He's gonna get top money. Losing or injuries could though. So why rush into it just to save an extra 4m next year. Negotiations start this offseason when he has 1yr left.
It's also important to note that the team just won't be that desperate for cash next year. Yeah they will need to save some cash at some point but the bulk of the must re-sign players are two to three years away. Not next year.
