  • Van Noy has had a really good career. He wasn’t a bad pick, Lions coaches were just shit at deploying him.

You are right. He has carved out a pretty good career. I don't watch him often but when I do focus on him he always seems underwhelming and a step slow, yet seems to show on the stat sheet and make some plays.

BTW- I thought I seen he has a podcast now. I guess everyone does...

Underwhelming and a step slow was a Quinn hallmark. He seemed to think every player could over come physical short comings through coaching. He never caught on that that was the exception not the rule. (See also Millen’s love of drafting players who fell in the draft due to injury, regardless of what the injury was)

        • Back in the '90s and again in the 2010s, it was standard rooting procedure to just hope that a couple NFC teams gobble up wins while we concede all but the last playoff seed, and just hope that the other bottom feeders lose enough games for us to squeak in at 9-7. Then suddenly last year, instead of it helping us that Green Bay or Minnesota goes 15-2 in the process of wiping out our wildcard competition, we instead found ourselves focusing solely on winning the division and seeing where it goes from there. But now suddenly AFC games are no longer completely meaningless to me, as they've been my entire life. Now, I'm glad to see Baltimore lose, because that is the one team I don't want to face in the Super Bowl.

          • If they happened to get to the Superbowl, I'd rather it be Baltimore than the Chefs. Baltimore is scary, but the defense has not been good the first half of the season. 26th in points allowed, 25th in yardage.

It's all subject to change in the second half but right now, it is not good and it is especially bad in the 4th quarter. The Chefs are much more balanced. But as always, nothing stays static.

            • If you get to the SB you are going to have to beat a good team to win it all. If this Lions team gets there I will feel good about their chances against anybody from the AFC.

I'd feel better if Hutchinson was 100% healthy and available.

We still need a solid top flight DE, and we have until next Tuesday to get something done.

Yeah, I don't worry about the AFC. I want every NFC team to lose to the AFC. It betters the Lions' chances whether it's for the division, higher seed or to sneak into the wild card.

                  • And I would also agree that the Lions would be in a better position if they had one of the best defensive ends in the league still playing.

                    • They aren't getting a top flight defensive end, those aren't going to be available. But they may get a piece. If they don't, well every team has a weakness. The Ravens can get to the Superbowl and they have a bottom third defense. The Chiefs can win a Superbowl and their offense is pretty pedestrian.

Yeah, I've pretty much accepted that what you see is what you get.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't like to add a rusher, but I'm not sure I want them to break the bank.

I think they are probably good enough to win a Superbowl as is

                          • At this point, I'd be fairly content with them getting a piece if for no reason than to get a decent warm body that's slightly above replacement level. The Lions are trotting out retired Piston players to set up at EDGE right now!
