This was my 4th since they have to keep an eye on my weirdo guts and they did the endoscope down my throat at the same time. Every time I have it done the last thing I remember them doing is putting the bite splint thing in then waking up in recovery. This time my eyelids were closing and I was trying to keep them open and thought why am I doing that and just closed my eyes. The first colonoscopy I had done I didn't go out and there was a video screen in front of me so just watched it. Weird seeing your insides.

    • I had a colonoscopy last year. I turned 48 a few weeks ago but it was covered by my insurance. Yeah, the prep is bad but I was out for the whole thing. It was a relief once it was over.

      • Deb the problem with the procedure you did is that if it comes back as a positive you will need to follow up with a Colonoscopy.
Insurance companies then may not pay for the colonoscopy because it is not being done as a preventative procedure.
People need to look into that to see how Insurance handles it.

        • I had 2 so far.
The first one used a prep mixture which is probably the one others have talked about.
This past September I had my second and was given a pre mixed flavored bottle.
Drink one of the bottles and follow up with like 4 drinks of water. Then in about a couple hours later drink the next bottle and water.
          Was much better experience

That's nonsense. I asked my doctor if my colonoscopy would be covered since it has only been 3 years since the previous one and he said it would because there was cause to have it done.

            • Once again saying something I said as nonsense.
What the fuck do you guys think I make shit up.
Since when is your doctor the only say in InsurNce claims?
That why I said she should check with Insurance company to find out.
You fuckers are unbelievable with your responses.
I post something that might be helpful and someone wants to shoot it down because “my doctor says” Your probably the same guy that still gets a finger up his ass because the doctor says so.
Even though the ADA has said it’s not necessary and at least half of the doctors performing the procedure don’t know what the fuck their looking for.

My doctor told me that just days ago. Maybe you are just getting bad information. And, yeah, I would trust what my doctor says about insurance since he deals with it on a daily basis. Far better than taking somebody's word on the internet. My insurance covered it by the way.

Scotts glioblastoma on removal was stage 4. Unfortunately all brain cancer cells, etc etc; when they reach stage 4, they stay stage 4, and they will always be there. Following guys like Dave Bolton & Logan Sneed who are currently 8 year survivors, is what Scott is doing.
Thankfully, scan result on Nov 30th was clear. Grade 4 cells will still be there, but inhibiting their growth is essential.

That is great news. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I am definitely hoping it's negative and I don't have to think about it for a couple years lol. But I have pretty good insurance, I don't think it'd have to be considered "preventative" to get covered on my plan, but I will definitely ask, thanks for mentioning it.

They will cover it, Deb. Covering a colonoscopy is cheaper than paying for the cancers that it spots in time to be easily treated.

If you have an endoscopy like edindetroit did, make sure they wipe off the hose before putting it down your throat,

                              • I have a family history of colon cancer so I "get" to have one every 5 years. I'm due for one now. *sigh*, As wcfwtf said the process has gotten much better over the years. Drinking a gallon of laxative was not fun.

Last time I went, I did all of the prep and when I went to the hospital they told me that my referral had not been approved. I spent about 2 hours on the phone with Tricare (Military insurance) and finally convinced them to send the referral so I didn't have to go through it again. I think I finally got to someone who understood and was sympathetic to having done colonoscopy prep for no reason and she fast tracked it through...

Man, when did we all get so damn old?
