That didn't last, however. Over the years, Tommy was taken in by HIV denialists - a bizarre collection of discredited scientists, conspiracy theorists, and, most unfortunately, HIV positive patients - who deny the link between the HIV virus and AIDS. Their magnum opus is a wretched "documentary" called House of Numbers, which Tommy watched regularly. Tommy stopped taking his medicine. He continued having unprotected sex. He fought HIV with the same haphazard reckless style he had employed in the ring, but with far less ability to defend himself. The results, unfortunately, were inevitable.

very sad, and it makes sense or just coincidence that HBO is running the rocky marathon this weekend.

I read a few weeks ago about his struggle with AIDS and while his family said he had full blown AIDS he denied it still.

The scarier part and I hope it was just for shock value, is the fact he admitted to unprotected sex after his HIV positive diagnosis.

Was going to bring this sad news here after just reading about it elsewhere.

KEN NORTON was a very, very nice family man. I was fortunate to meet him a couple of times in and around Orange County, CA where he chose to live.

            RIP Champ

            • RIP Ken, a nice guy from whatever I had seen of him. Could easily have been given the decision on the third fight too.

Loved it when boxing was interesting.

                • Agreed Mark. Between Ali, Frazier, Norton and Foreman there were some great fights and the outcome was never certain.

The last era like that was the one in the welter/middle weights that had Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler and Ray Leonard. Some great stuff there too

The sport is dying fast now. I have no idea who the heavyweight champ is in any of the organizations, maybe one fo the Kitchcos?

I remember his fight with Shavers, he was demolished. Shavers is considered one of the hardest punchers of all time.

I like him better than Horton only because he was more or less a utility guy and when he played, he came through with his bat.
