    • Wow!

One of the major wire services offered Kincade Cottages as a keepsake container for several years in their Christmas lineup. They were pretty cool and pretty popular. I have one of each of them except the first that was offered as I did not realize how popular they would become.

      RIP.

Dying at age 54 of natural causes?

      Woah!
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

Authorities say South Alabama associate head football coach Kurt Crain was found dead at his home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

                      In Memoriam

We remember those who died in the sports world in 2012.

Baldwin County Coroner Sam Vinson said Tuesday night while the case was still under investigation, the wound appeared to be self-inflicted and that an autopsy would likely be performed on Wednesday. A news release from the university says Spanish Fort police discovered Crain's body on Tuesday afternoon.
The 47-year-old was an Associated Press All-American linebacker at Auburn in 1987. His 168 tackles from that season still ranks second on Auburn's single-season charts.
He was drafted by the Houston Oilers and spent two seasons in the NFL with the Oilers and Green Bay Packers.

                          • maybe premature for this thread, but outlook doesn't look good.

LONDON (AP) — Former Bee Gee Robin Gibb is gravely ill with pneumonia in a London hospital, British media reported Saturday.
The Sun newspaper reported that 62-year-old Gibb is in a coma, citing a family friend.
The newspaper and the Press Association news agency said family members including wife Dwina and brother Barry were at his bedside.
Gibb's publicist, Doug Wright, declined to comment, but Gibb's son has acknowledged that the 62-year-old musician is seriously ill in a hospital.
Gibb was hospitalized last year for stomach and colon problems and had intestinal surgery last month.
Gibb has not specified the exact nature of his illness — widely reported to be cancer — but told the BBC he had a growth on his colon that was removed.
He said earlier this year that he was making a good recovery, but was forced to miss the London premiere of his classical "Titanic Requiem" this week because of illness. His son Robin-John Gibb said the family was "praying for him and hoping he has a speedy recovery."
The Bee Gees — British-born, Australia-raised brothers Robin, Barry and Maurice Gibb — had a string of disco-era hits including "How Deep is Your Love" and "Stayin' Alive." Their soundtrack to the movie "Saturday Night Fever" was one of the best-selling albums of the 1970s.

                            • This is just crazy.

Four weeks after Bolton's Fabrice Muamba improbably survived a cardiac arrest on the pitch during an FA Cup match, a similar scenario has played out in Italy -- but this time without the happy ending. Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini collapsed on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest in the 31st minute of a Serie B match against Pescara (as with the Muamba incident, we will not be showing video of this).
Medical workers attempted to resuscitate the 25-year-old on the pitch, but according to the AP, a cardiologist at the hospital to which Morosini was taken reported that he was dead upon arrival and never regained consciousness. The match was abandoned as players left the pitch in tears.
A defibrillator was used on Morosini on the pitch, but the ambulance was held up by a police car blocking its path. From the AP:
''He looked at me in the eyes when he was taken into the ambulance,'' Pescara's general manager, Danilo Iannascoli, told Sky Italia. ''We are living through a drama.''
