  • One of my all time favorite tiger players, Jim Northrup, is dead at age of 71. Northrup made the greatest catch I have ever seen in person when he leaped higher than the left field screen in 1972 to rob a batter I have long since forgotten of a homerun. The reaction after the catch was telling.

The pitcher Mickey Lolich stood motionless on the mound for several moments staring out to left field in disbelief. He left the mound shaking his head. His post game quote was something to the effect, I don't want to take anything away from Willie Mays, but I honestly don't know how anyone could have made that catch..It was unbelievable.

    • RIP, Jim.

.......ahhhhhh, those were the days. Northrup, Kaline, Horton, Cash, McAullif, Rodriquez, Stanley, Freehan, Oiler, Lolich and McLean.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

        • I was hoping to find video on you tube of Northrup's great catch and was unsuccessful. I then looked his his huge homerun in Tiger stadium. It hit the center field scoreboard and was just a few feet low of clearing the board and going out of the park. They estimate later it had travelled 500 feet and change and easily would have been 550 feet had it gone out of the park. Couldn't find that either, but here's a nice clip of a few Tigers including Northrup, facing Bob Gibson in game 7 of the 68 series.

            What a flashback!

Funny the video quality was still in the 50's eh?

I'm pretty sure Conway played Danny Zuko on Broadway, prior to the movie.

                    TMD is right.

Travolta did SNF just before he did Grease. Everyone thought Grease would be the bigger hit.
