  • If after two years, you are making the same mistakes and showing no signs of at least marginal improvement? Yeah. You should get your ass canned. If that scares off people, then they probably aren't the sort of guys the Lions should consider hiring anyway.

Optimigos keep acting like we're demanding Super Bowl appearances by Year 2, or you're gone. We don't think it's unreasonable to expect better than the last two weeks.

    • The 2021 draft has 2 top line starters in Sewell and Ra and 1 (McNeil) who's a starter in name but hasn't really made any impact. Levi, Melifonwu, and Barnes have given this team next to nothing and that's not great. Those are the picks where you build depth. You can whiff on a draft like that and it's ok, but if you do it consistently you're fucked. The fact that they traded up for Barnes aggressively and almost traded up for Levi is concerning. Melifonwu's switch to S is weird to me as well - he flashed a little bit when he actually played last year.

Way too early to make any assessments on 2022 draft good or bad.

The fans get tired of the coaches squawking too.

The last 2 weeks have been a total shit show. If that keeps up there is no reason to keep anyone on the coaching staff. There is no reason right now to do anything, and I don't believe the Lions will. Campbell got bitch slapped in New England. If he lets that happen again I don't think he'll last. Those above him have to be sweating right now.

If you think that any team hits on 7/7 draft picks you are greatly mistaken. Over 90% of draft picks don't make it.

            • Of course, but it's not "fantastic" drafting when you may have whiffed on a bunch of picks a year ago and this year's draft class has played 5 games so you have no idea what you actually have (including 2 guys who haven't even seen the field).

              • The off-season is actually a great time for a whole new regime, everything has been cleared out. They have draft picks. At the end of the season the only thing that needs to be determined is if this front office and coaching staff are the best available people to make future decisions. Don't fool yourself, there are only 32 Hc and gm jobs. You can find plenty of people.

It has to be better than what they have done. One of their free agent additions was DeShon Elliott and he was benched Sunday and got snaps when injuries occurred. When he was one of your top free agent additions, it hurts. Brockers is actively hurting the team, he flat out sucks. They need to show much more.

                • The thing is about draft picks is a lot make it for their first contract. The whole league is built in drafting cheap players and using them. Maybe half of the draft picks are JAGs but they are useful.

                  • Let's be realistic though, Deshon Elliot got a 1 year contract just barely above league minimum at 1 mil. He shouldn't be viewed as an impact signing. Chark was their biggest cap hit FA at only 4. They had to give him a big bonus to get to that. Then Harris and Walker at 3m.

Walker was the only real long term investment. Seemed worth it before he got hurt to me. PFF had him graded with a solid 74.3. Romeo Okwara was their one real investment deal last year. He was graded a 73.3 before getting hurt last year. Those two signings would both be realistically considered as failures based on lack of availability. I have a hard time holding them against Holmes though.

Can you point to the team that doesn't "whiff" on a bunch of picks every year? It is the NFL. If you get 2 franchise type starters out of a draft you did an amazing job. That is rare. Add in that they also got 1-2 role players and that is a fantastic draft.

Pick any team in the NFL and look at their last 5 years. You will see the majority of guys drafted were whiffs.

I hear the Bengals alot with rebuilding and drafting in the last few years as "amazing" for instance. In the last 3 years how many guys did they draft that regularly start? 4 out of 23.

Or how about the SB champ Rams - 2 out of 26 drafted players are starters

                      Chiefs? 6 out of 22.

                      Packers - 3 out of 29.

I could keep going but you get the point.

What is fantastic about the 2022 draft? They found a guy in the 5th who looks like a gem, but every other pick ahead of hims is just hoping and wishing at this point.

If Hutch is a bust already why is he the most double teamed DL in the league? How does he lead all rookies in sacks and pressures? Crazy that he is a bust already.

Williams hasn't even seen the field yet but done already? Same with Paschal? Wow.

Joking aside Hutch is very likely a starter for us for a long time. Martinez is looking solid. That is 2 starters. That alone makes this draft not a bust.

If Williams or Paschal become a quality starter than this draft is great.

Joseph is already gets reps in games and seems like he could be a good depth guy.

You seem to really be pissed about draft picks the last 2 years. What exactly are you expecting? 7-8 all pros?

                            • Haven’t once said they are busts, it’s all hope and wishing right now. 2 top picks who haven’t taken any live snaps and a bunch of other guys getting reps on a historically bad defense. That is all it is right now. Let’s actually see them make a difference before we give Holmes credit for a “fantastic” draft.

                              • BTW, I really like Holmes. He seems like the most competent hire they’ve made in 20 plus years. I hope this turns out to be a great draft class, but let’s wait to crown his ass until it actually works.
