I was listening to the PFF guys, Palazzo & Monson, talk about the Lions Vikings game. Palazzo said he decided to research a "Lions" stat. Over the past two season, the Lions have converted 12 "disrespectful" runs into 1st downs, or designed runs where it was 3rd down and over 4 yards. The next best team in the NFL is at 7. He said that the two individual leaders in that stat are Monty & Gibbs.
As they pointed out, a big reason the Lions can do this is because if they don't convert the play but get close, MCDC will usually go for it on 4th.
Thought that was a fun stat.
They talk about it at 9:30

If the Lions are in play for Landry then it would make sense a deal would t get done until after Sunday’s game. Titans have already sold off a couple of starters.
Landry would be interesting for the Lions as he would be a multi-year solution, though he’s not the model of what the have looked for at DE opposite Hutch.

Landry was my favorite prospect to draft in whatever year he entered the NFL. Really wanted the Lions to take him…

That reminds me… I thought there was a goofy situation in the Jets vs Steelers game the other night. Steelers were called for offsides on a PAT. Jets decided to take half the distance to the goal and went for 2. However, the Jets’ play call was a standard pass despite that penalty. It stands out when teams are so stubborn about passing the ball in those situations. 3rd & short, 4th & short, 2 PT conversions…. We’re lucky that the Lions are so successful at the old school style of running the ball in those situations. When the whole NFL zigs at being a passing team, the Lions zagged and have been lethal in both areas. Running and passing. Take that, 2 high safety looks!AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

I keep coming back to the Saints as trade partner for the Lions. They just extended Kamara, so they may not go into full sell-off mode (never seems to be their strategy). But with the familiarity the Lions obviously have with their personnel and front office, and the need for the Saints to stock assets. just seems like an opportunity could be there. They have DEs that fit physically fit the Lions scheme (theoretically at least)
Cam Jordan - would they trade a Saints legend? He's fallen off the last couple of years, but would still likely help the rotation and would not cost a steep price. Maybe Saints do him a solid by giving him a chance to win a title?
Chase Young - think the Saints would probably like to deal him (his name is popping up in trade rumors), the Lions were reportedly interested last year when he was available. Doesn't seem like a culture fit, but if it's super cheap who knows
Payton Turner - former first round pick who hasn't really panned out, on the last year of his deal; not a big add, but again if super cheap he would at least provide some additional depth. But also maybe too close to what they already picked up in Isaiah Thomas.
Carl Granderson - this is the home run swing, fits to a T what the Lions want opposite Hutch, and he's in the 2nd year of a 5 year deal, so it's a good longer term solution; that said, hard to see why the Saints would move on from him at this juncture and managing the cap impact this year may be difficult. Was also unclear if trading him even helps the Saints cap situation next year.Last edited by Mainevent; October 24, 2024, 09:46 AM.
