        • It's pretty much what everyone was expecting. The big question In have is is it a 4 year extension or a 3 year extension tacked onto the existing year. It is almost certain that voided years are added as well.

As long as Brad Holmes is able to hit on his draft picks, we'll be ok.

                • My cousin hates the deal but he has always hated Goff and has been looking to unload him since he’s gotten here. I think he’s in the group of fans that thinks Hooker could be the answer. I’m surprised anyone would want to risk unloading Goff for a completely unproven rookie. There’s a camp of fans that thinks because the offensive line is good and the weapons for the QB are good, that any QB can step in and just replicate what Goff is doing or play better. I guess it’s possible but Goff is playing at a very high level and has built up very good chemistry with ASB, La Porta, and the RBs. Going with a rookie QB is such a ridiculous gamble.

I’m all for upgrading every position but there’s no obvious upgrade available at QB.

                  • I get the idea that some people might not be thrilled to drop $53 million on a QB that isn't Patrick Mahomes. But that's how much a good QB is going to cost you.

                    • It's the going rate for proven quarterbacks. The key is what the cap number in 2024 and 2025 are in relation to what it would have been this year and next year either with the franchise tag. If they hadn't signed the extension it would have been 32 million and at least 43 million.

I heard some caller on the radio claim that Hendon Hooker was the answer and that he had a Stafford like arm. It sounded like my man was unfamiliar with both Stafford and Hooker.

They definitely have put down a lot of money, but that's the way it works in the NFL. Nobody gets Pro Bowl or All Pro performances paying players peanuts for very long. If you perform you get paid.

Pay attention to the three TV contracts the NBA will get in the coming weeks and extrapolate what the NFL is going to get in 5 years. As it is, the revenue the league has received the last two years has outpaced the most optimistic projections for the cap. What you think are big numbers are going to humdrum in a short time
NFL will surely pull plug four years early on current TV contracts.

The thing about Goff is he is excellent at the middle of the field because he's tall, has good mechanics and has good timing. He is the closest quarterback in football that plays the way Tom Brady played. People think that anybody can slice and dice the middle of the field because it doesn't look that impressive but they generally can't replicate it. Short quarterbacks have to live outside the numbers like Russell Wilson did and when that goes, it's all she wrote

                        • Enough extensions are going to be signed in the next year that this will look like a normal contract soon enough.

Goff is criminally underrated by the Madden and Fantasy stans. He's a top-10 QB (at least) for winning NFL games.

                              • A little richer on the total AAV than I thought, but really need to see the details to understand the true numbers. My guess is that it’s really a 3 year extension (so four total with this year) with a decision point before some ballon payment in 4th extension year. And hopefully they used some of this years cap space to keep the future cap hits down.

Expect Dak and Lawrence to pass this number up big time very soon. And then will be interesting to see what happens with Love.
