  • I love Detroit and being in the downtown area but I can honestly say the downtown area is a clusterfuck even without street closures

Why would any team sweeten the deal when the only requirement is to match?

To manipulate the salary cap. Not saying they would do it for Brock’s case, I was just wondering if it was even a possibility

        • Fan from SF called in to 97.1 today and said that the 49ers were really looking forward to the big upgrade at TE2, would open up aspects of their playbook. I wonder if part of the reason the Lions matched is to keep him from SF in particular.

          • I really truly doubt that either San Fran or Detroit thought they were getting the goat of the other through their TE2.

            Just sayin'.

            • There's no need to change the contract to what they matched.
Brock Wright’s contract details are out, and it was clearly an easy decision for the Lions to match.

It is nice to see the Lions getting shit right, isn't it?

                • It's another lesson that you should always wait for the details in NFL deals. This contract helps out the Lions for the next two seasons.

                  • I figure because Laporta is on a rookie deal they could spend in keeping the positions a strength.
Wright is a good football player bottom line.

I'm not saying that, if that's what you're implying. Nothing emotional about it at all.

I'm saying that Wright is a guaranteed upgrade to the 49ers and with him they are a better team. Our goal this year is to win the Superbowl and the 49ers are our main competition.

Holmes might have been on the fence about re-signing Wright to that money, but the fact that it was to the team that most stands in our way of accomplishing our goals might have put him over the edge. The contract is reasonable, but we have a pretty good TE room already in place. Matching the contract helps us slightly but hurting our biggest competition gives it added value.

I was expecting more from him as well last year

                          • LaPorta played very high snap counts. 100 Percent in some games. There weren't a lot of snaps for him to even try to do anything other than special teams.
