Further, after the draft, it looks like he has enough contacts at each position group to go out and get a vet for those where he doesn't find a good draft choice and really needs better depth.

The other day, I was trying to narrow down what position groups he'd likely emphasize in the draft and found it was easier to say which groups he was likely to avoid.

I'd say he is very unlikely to draft the following position groups on the first 2 days: LB, QB, RB & TE. That's the only limitation I can come up with. Get best player value except for that -- and I think he'd even consider those positions if there was a player who was far and away fantastic value.
Kicker as well won't be drafted in the first couple.
    GO LIONS "24" !!

      • It’s nice to be able to argue about what backups the team needs to draft.

          • Not a surprise, I just hope that it isn't the answer to the hole made by the Sutton release. I like it more as a depth signing

This. Watching the Fucking ball bounce off his face for a game changing drive still haunts me. As long as he depth I’m all good with it

                • Lions match the offer sheet to Brock Wright per Adam Schefter.

                  • Damn bro that’s a lot of scratch for a backup TE. I’m glad he’s staying though

                      • Yeah I thought that was a fairly good contract offer from San Fran. I didn’t think we’d match it

                        • We'll have to see the details of the matched contract but it was reported a 3 year deal 12 million with 6 million guaranteed. To me that means two years a little above 3 million in both of the first two years. That doesn't seem like it's that much more than the tender which was 1 year at 2.95 million. To me the extra scratch was not enough to let him go. They use him a lot

                          • Yep. Wright is a solid utility player.

                            • I kinda wonder if this was a "let someone negotiate his contact for us" sort of thing.

                              • Yeah, let him go find his market and have the other team do the work for them. I didn't realize he was just 25. Maybe I was getting him mixed up with Zylstra who's a couple of years older.
