  • I don't do power rankings($) for wrestlers, Bill Apter has that covered.

If you don't renew your subscription for my 2024 NFL power rankings($) (debuting two weeks after the draft), it's your loss. You might be relying on Jad's opinion and you get what you pay for there

This is false. I don't think Steamboat ever had a toe injury..

      • We used to have a saying amongst our group - “it all comes back to wrestling”. Because no matter what scenario you came upon in life or situation you found yourself in, there was always some thread or parallel to wrestling.

(Granted that was back in the days of heavy drinking among other things))

        • Nah, it's still valid. The last 10 years in politics is proof of that.

            A fucking wrestler. Jesus.

If he keeps making wrestler references, I'm damn sure not paying for his Power Ranking($)
For what it's worth, at least in the aspect of physical performance, the injuries they suffer can be analogous to professional athletes.

              • Pro wrestling is not a sport. Also, not regulated the same with regards to PEDs. Injuries cant be compared.

This. There are patterns that Holmes has clearly established. One of those is bringing in enough people to be set at every position heading into the draft. He wants to let the draft come to him, or follow a person he really likes and moving to get beat value for them.

He doesn't go into the draft feeling he has to fill a spot. A perfect example is Gibbs. He doesn't draft Gibbs if he is "filling a need" considering he brought in Montgomery. He doesn't sign Montgomery if he has decided before the draft he was doing whatever it took to get Gibbs.

The Lions retained an important special teams piece Thursday evening, re-signing cornerback Khalil Dorsey.

                    • I mean, all picks are a combination of BPA and needs. LIke I saw a fan mock draft that had the Lions selecting 3 centers and a guard. Sure, the centers may have been the best players on the board at the time, but they can't all make the roster/practice squad.

Last year, the Lions needed an explosive offensive weapon (Gibbs), a linebacker to step in immediately (Campbell), a good receiving tight end (LaPorta), a young QB to develop (Hooker), a NT/1-tech (Martin) and a young OL for depth and development (Sorsdal).

I think he also wanted a CB ready to play day-1 (Witherspoon), but couldn't get that done (outside chance he also wanted Gonzalez at 18)

I think Branch and Green were straight BPA, but also filled positions that had roster spots available.

                      • from nfl.com

"D.J. is a hard guy to replace," Bengals DC Anarumo told Cincinnati reporters last month at the NFL Scouting Combine, via Cincinnati Bengals Talk. "Hopefully, we don't have to, but he's such a great locker room guy to start with and then just what he does inside, in the interior of the defense, he just controls blocks. It's a lot of things that people don't see. You can't look at D.J. Reader in that position and say let me look at his numbers. Even though he has good numbers for the position, he is just dominant when it comes to taking on blocks, taking on double teams, and not getting moved. And that allows other people to make plays, and when you don't have that, it creates other issues."
A couple short videos of him just mauling some Cleveland and Tennessee guards. He just moves his man backwards:

edit: Press conference. He's remarkably well-spoken. 2-time captain for a reason

                        • Apparently Reader deal only $9M guaranteed. So that’s probably a lot of playing time/health incentives in the bigger number. Excelled.

That was disengenous compared to what I said and the comparison I gave. Holmes isn't going to say fuckit the best value is a RB at pick 29 and take that with Montgomery and Gibbs on the team. But what he will do is play the draft to get value and find players that are not only the best players but best matches. Perfect example is Gibbs again, believes is value is top 10, but thinks his value in the draft might be a little lower and moves back, gets picks, still drafts Gibbs. If he doesn't get Montgomery, chances are he takes Gibbs at 6. In the end even if a player is targeted he will have the flexibility by filling all roles prior to the draft, move into place to pick them up at roughly their value in the draft making them BPA.

                            • I think attempting to explain Brad Holmes' draft theory and team building in anything less than a full length book is going to be wrought with peril.
