  • What's his path to the starting job? If they extend Goff, it's because they expect him to be the starter for the forseeable future, 2-3 years at least. So then Hooker's taking over the reigns as a first time starter at 30?

I mean, he isn't better than Goff and Goff is going to be in Detroit awhile. Hooker's contract is for 4 years, unless you think Goff is gonzo after 2024 my take is right on

No i get all of this and Goff is my QB. Goff to me is the perfect QB for this squad. I just thought it was funny that we have a blue chip (prior to his injury) at the most important position in all of football and there's not a peep about him. I get WHY but being in Detroit its crazy.

Anytime our city has that kind of talent in the minors or waiting as a backup we're always chomping at the bit. Its really great.
        F#*K OHIO!!!

        • Two key things that continue to resonate to me about Holmes and what he brings to this Lions team - smartly acquiring/developing talent, and building depth. This lions team used to be so thin that losing a key starter to injury would derail a season. Not the case anymore.

            • On 97.1, every so often someone will call in and insist that the Lions should let Goff go so they can start Hooker. The hosts universally do their best to dissuade the, um, misguided caller, but I don't know why they even entertain the call at this point.

I agree, though, it is nice that we have someone at backup QB that might actually be good and inexpensive. Goff has been an ironman to this point, but realistically most teams need a backup to play a few games and give you a chance to win.

It’s probably Kelly Stafford as they want to come back home.

                • It ain't Kelly Stafford, it's a lot of old guys who have no concept of the salary cap.

Or crankasses that don’t realize that the cap has nearly doubled in the last 10 years and think that players should still make what they did a decade ago.

                          • I’m interested in seeing how Hendon looks when he’s healthy. If he ever gets good enough to start, hopefully they can use him or trade him.

                            • Fuller would be really nice would much prefer him over Gilmore.

Clowney would be interesting if you think the bounce back is real.

                              • NFL Players Association released its report cards today. Lions improved from last year.

                                Here's the report card:

In particular there were two new categories -- owner & coach. Dan Campbell was one of 3 coaches to receive an A+

                                A freep article about it:

Detroit Lions and coach Dan Campbell 1 of 3 teams to earn an A+ in the head coach category; owner Sheila Hamp received an 8.1 out of 10 from players.
