He'll need to go to another team and work on his teaching skills, because they didn't work in Detroit.
I get why Bly was let go but it’s not like he had a ton to
work with.
F#*K OHIO!!!

I thought it was a curious hire last year, it's not like UNC teams he was coaching for were known for their defense. In fact, it was quite the opposite. And there was the old "mutually parted ways" situation at the end. Obviously you can still be a quality coach amidst a trainwreck squad, but there was nothing particularly compelling about his resume.
That is very possible but it sure feels like the team is very thin at safety...im sure there are cheaper options and that might be what they might want to pursue....Branch can fill in but I think they really like him at the slot and dont want to go that route.
They got Kerby and IM as starters. That is not a bad place to start.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

Campbell mentioned numerous times after games how the corners were.not.playimg.the coverage the way the defense was called. The whole secondary underperformed.

Yeah that’s definitely on the coach to get the guys ready.

You're not going to be stacked at a position like S. Beyond the true difference makers at the position, it's pretty interchangeable. What I could see them doing is if they add a couple of cornerbacks including maybe rookie that can take snaps at nickel, Branch can then rotate in at S more. Beyond that, look for bargain FA signings, maybe a JAG (bring back Will Harris or similar type?). Backup safety is just not a spot you're going to put a lot of resources.

I think the Lions are going to bring back a CB (Vildor), grab a good or better CB in FA (Sneed? Kendall Fuller?) And get one that can be in the mix for snaps from Day 1 in draft.

Yeah, i'm not even really counting the Vildors/Jacobs of the world. They'll bring 1 or 2 of those guys back or find similar to fill out the roster. But that's down roster fodder
I would expect the roster to look something like what you are saying though:
Vet FA + Sutton as outside starters
Branch in the Nickel
Young high round pick as the primary backup for both nickel and outside (eventual outside starter potential needed)
Gilmore
A couple Vildor/Jacobs/Dorsey/Lucas/Harris types for depth and special teams (could even be another draft pick from the mid rounds).
Fields can cry about it to the team therapist wherever he gets traded to.
lol
