  • He's a down the field, big play guy - Antoine Green basically with more pedigree and 3 years of experience. He'll add some juice, but despite his talent he's never been the most consistent guy.

Yeah, but had two solid years before this one and that Browns offense is a mess right now. Hopefully he can regain his mojo like Josh Reynolds did after a disastrous stint with Tennessee. It's certainly worth a 6th rounder.

    • I wish they had done more at the deadline, but it's not my call.

      • As a biased Michigan Wolverines fan, very slightly excited to have DPJ on the Lions. His QB play has been subpar dating back to college. Shea Patterson was mid. Browns with mediocre Baker Mayfield, washed DeShaun Watson, and … PJ Walker? 2nd shot on a low risk “X WR” after Denzel Mims was a miss.

That said, I’m disappointed that the defense didn’t get help. Some holes and questions going forward. The 49ers, Eagles, and Seahawks made splashier moves to get better and I’m jealous.

I guess with 2024 Free Agency, the 2024 NFL Draft being held in Detroit, and the 2024 UDFA, I sincerely hope that Brad Holmes addresses the team weakness going forward for next season.

          • Lions make trade with Browns for former Michigan receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones

            Justin Rogers
            The Detroit News

Allen Park — The Detroit Lions have made a trade shortly before Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, agreeing to send a future sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for former University of Michigan wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Coming off a career-best year, Peoples-Jones caught 61 passes for 839 yards and three touchdowns in 2022. But he's struggled to carry that momentum into this season, tallying just eight grabs for 97 yards through seven games for the Browns.

The Lions had a need at receiver following the recent release of veteran Marvin Jones.

"He brings versatility," Lions general manager Brad Holmes said about Peoples-Jones. "He’s a big guy, he’s got good contested catch skills. He can play outside, he can play inside. He’s a very smart player. He’s been very, very durable. He fits everything that we’re about, so I think he’ll fit in just fine. He’s just another flavor that we’re adding to our mix. It’s a lot of things that he can do for us and we’ll just see how quickly we can get him acclimated."

            • Detroit Lions trade for WR Donovan Peoples-Jones from Cleveland Browns

              Dave Birkett
              Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Lions made a minor move to upgrade their roster at Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, acquiring wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones from the Cleveland Browns for a 2025 sixth-round pick.

A sixth-round pick out of Michigan in 2020, Peoples-Jones had eight catches for 97 yards this season.

With less than an hour to go before the 4 p.m. deadline, Lions general manager Brad Holmes said he likely is done making deals for the day.

The former Detroit Cass Tech star takes the roster spot left vacant when the Lions released veteran receiver Marvin Jones last week.

The Lions joined a host of NFC title contenders in making roster moves at the deadline, though their deal caused less fanfare some of the other trades that went down Tuesday.

The San Francisco 49ers traded a third-round pick to the Washington Commanders for defensive end Chase Young, and the Minnesota Vikings acquired quarterback Josh Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals to replace Kirk Cousins, who tore his Achilles tendon on Sunday.

              • They are just not going to go after anyone who doesn’t fit the culture. It probably eliminates quite a few options but it looks like it’s been working for Holmes so far. I’m not gonna complain about it.

Doesn't seem to bother SF or Philadelphia.

                  • I wonder if Holmes is a little more reluctant to trade draft picks since we'll be hosting the next draft and it would be unfortunate if we didn't have much draft capital.

DPJ Seems like a nice smart pickup. Nice to get another veteran in the room with Marvin's retirement. I think he'll do well here. He's a good returner, too.

                        Yeah, I'm good with it.

                        No Divas=no attitudes=tighter team.

I *think* they think that when they get everyone healthy they are a strong contender and don't need to rock the boat bringing in any possible "me first" head cases even if they are super talented.

Is there any evidence that Sweat or Young were divas, had terrible attitudes that would rock the boat and wreck the culture? How fragile is the culture if one single player coming in as a rental can threaten it?
