I love Annie Agar's content, but she has been MERCILOUSLY making fun of Josh McDaniels for about a year. There's even a Raider fan youtuber who did a special vid using one of her videos incorrectly assuming that she was a Raider's fan who hated Josh McDaniels.

Honestly, though, her critiques of his game management decisions have been spot-on.

Anyway, I know none of us here have any sympathy for a Packers fan from Michigan who is coming to the realization that the Packers are now a mediocre NFL team.

And to make it sweeter, her brother is a Lions fan!!!

Super Bowl 2024 odds: 49ers extending lead; buy in on Lions, Bengals?

The San Francisco 49ers remain the favorites to win Super Bowl LVIII, via BetMGM. Here’s what you need to know:

*- San Francisco is one of two undefeated teams remaining in the NFL after five weeks. The 49ers, as of Tuesday morning, have watched their lead on the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (4-1) grow since last week.

*- The Philadelphia Eagles leapfrogged the Buffalo Bills into third place after the Bills fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. The Eagles, the defending NFC champions, are the other undefeated team this season and toppled the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5.

*- The Miami Dolphins stand fifth, while the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions fall just outside the top five.

Lions living up to the hype

I didn’t want to fall through the trap door with the Lions. I got to know Dan Campbell when he was an assistant with the New Orleans Saints, and I believed he would be a good head coach. But this was Detroit we were talking about, whose history didn’t exactly brim with confidence. They’ve already defeated the Chiefs and I’d give them a shot against almost any team in the NFL at this rate. Maybe not against the 49ers, but everyone else.


Bengals believer

I pound the Cincinnati Bengals drum pretty loudly in these parts on a semi-consistent basis. After watching the Joe Burrow–Ja’Marr Chase–Trey Hendrickson show in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals, it might be time to hop on the bandwagon again.

The AFC North has bunched back together and the Bengals seem like they’re the team that’s starting to heat up.

NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Lions, Jaguars on the rise, plus rookie check-in


(I'm only going to post the Lions, Tampa Bay - our next opponent, the NFC North, the top 10 NFL teams, and Jacksonville.)

It’s already Week 6 in the NFL. Some things are clear. The San Francisco 49ers are very good. The Miami Dolphins are very fast (and probably very good). And some things are not clear. Two of the most highly respected coaches in the league in the last two decades find themselves near the bottom of this week’s Power Rankings. And the Kansas City Chiefs look out of sorts on offense despite winning.

In the “Becoming Clear” category is how each team’s additions are affecting outcomes this year. For that reason, we’re doing a rookie check-in this week, although we’ve taken the liberty of expanding the category to “notable new guy” when warranted.


1. San Francisco 49ers (5-0)

(Last week: 1)

Sunday: Beat Dallas Cowboys 42-10

Should we do Sam Darnold here? San Francisco beat Dallas so badly Sunday night that Darnold got into the game, but no, this section is just going to be a 49ers appreciation post since the Niners don’t have any newcomers making a significant impact. Being the best team in the NFL in mid-October is not the goal, but Brock Purdy’s 123.1 passer rating would be the highest for any quarterback in a season since at least 2000, according to TruMedia, and there’s no indication San Francisco will slow down.

Up next: at Cleveland Browns, Sunday, 1 p.m. ET


2. Philadelphia Eagles (5-0)

(Last week: 2)

Sunday: Beat Los Angeles Rams 23-14

After coming within four points of a Super Bowl, the Eagles added two of the most productive new guys in the offseason. Defensive lineman Jalen Carter, the No. 9 pick, is tied for seventh in the league with 23 QB pressures. D’Andre Swift, acquired in an offseason trade from Detroit, has 361 rushing yards in the last three weeks. Save the arguments about whether the Tush Push is a football play. Dominating the lines of scrimmage is the essence of football, and that’s what Philly is doing.

3. Miami Dolphins (4-1)

(Last week: 4)

Sunday: Beat New York Giants 31-16

Miami might have missed on second-round cornerback Cam Smith, but the Dolphins made up for it with third-round pick De’Von Achane. After totaling 5 yards in the first two games of the season, the rookie running back leads the NFL with 455 rushing yards in the last three weeks. He’s averaging 12.3 yards per carry in that time and has two of the three fastest speeds in the NFL this year (21.93 mph and 21.76 mph), according to NextGen Stats.

Up next: vs. Carolina Panthers, Sunday, 1 p.m. ET


4. Detroit Lions (4-1)

(Last week: 7)

Sunday: Beat Carolina Panthers 42-24

Second-round tight end Sam LaPorta is one of the best rookies in the league and a big reason the Lions are fourth in the league in scoring (29.6). LaPorta leads all tight ends with 25 catches for 289 yards. Throw in the fact that running back Jahmyr Gibbs has shown flashes and second-round safety Brian Branch might be a star, and Detroit is in the running for the best draft of 2023, not to mention the third-best team in the NFC.

5. Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)

(Last week: 5)

Sunday: Beat Minnesota Vikings 27-20

It seems weird to say, but the Chiefs, who are a surprising ninth in the league in scoring (25.6 ppg), could use some help, and they aren’t getting much of it from this draft class. Second-round pick Rashee Rice is second on the team in catches with 17 but has only 173 yards. First-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah has four quarterback hurries and half a sack.

Up next: vs. Denver Broncos, Thursday, 8:15 p.m. ET


6. Buffalo Bills (3-2)

(Last week: 3)

Sunday: Lost to Jacksonville Jaguars 25-20

Tight end Dalton Kincaid, selected 25th, hasn’t exactly transformed the Buffalo offense. Kincaid has been on the field for more than 60 percent of the Bills’ snaps but has barely topped 100 receiving yards for the season (17 catches, 118 yards). Buffalo isn’t getting much out of the rest of its six-man draft class either. The Bills are getting a pass this week for losing in London to a team that spent the week there, but they need a bounce-back game quickly.

7. Dallas Cowboys (3-2)

(Last week: 6)

Sunday: Lost to San Francisco 49ers 42-10

Saying anything bad feels like piling on after Sunday night, after which Dallas has to turn in its contender card, but this year’s draft class doesn’t suggest there’s help on the way. First-round pick Mazi Smith has played only about 25 percent of the snaps and has four tackles on the defensive line. Second-round tight end Luke Schoonmaker has one catch for 1 yard.

Up next: vs. Los Angeles Chargers, Monday. 8:15 p.m. ET


8. Seattle Seahawks (3-1)

(Last week: 9)

Sunday: Bye

Cornerback Devon Witherspoon was a surprise at No. 5 in the draft. Guess we should have given Pete Carroll the benefit of the doubt about drafting defensive backs. Witherspoon was the NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 4, has one interception, two sacks and a nasty attitude the Seahawks love. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, 20th, is off to a slow start due in part — but only in part — to a wrist injury. He has 12 catches for 62 yards.

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1)

(Last week: 10)

Sunday: Bye

The 2023 draft class has been fine, and second-round offensive tackle Cody Mauch is starting, but the best addition by far has been quarterback Baker Mayfield. The former No. 1 pick looked destined to end his career as a backup. Now he’s top 10 in the league in passer rating (101.9) with seven touchdowns versus two interceptions, and the Bucs are infatuated. Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht called him “a dude” on Peter Schrager’s podcast last week. Crushes on Mayfield have flamed out fast in the past, but the Buccaneers lead the division at the moment.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2)

(Last week: 16)

Sunday: Beat Buffalo Bills 25-20

Wide receiver Calvin Ridley (22 catches, 333 yards) has helped after being acquired in a trade with the Falcons, but the draft class hasn’t provided much. Jacksonville drafted 13 players in the offseason. First-rounder Anton Harrison is starting at right tackle, but second-round tight end Brenton Strange (two catches, 7 yards) and third-round running back Tank Bigsby (41 yards on 15 carries) haven’t blossomed yet.

Up next: vs. Indianapolis Colts, Sunday, 1 p.m. ET


21. Minnesota Vikings (1-4)

(Last week: 17)

Sunday: Lost to Kansas City Chiefs 27-20

Wide receiver Jordan Addison has been what the Vikings drafted him to be, a solid second option behind Justin Jefferson. Addison has 19 catches for 249 yards. Third-round cornerback Mekhi Blackmon is starting to show some flashes. He’s had nine tackles in the last two games he’s played and was active against the Chiefs on Sunday.

23. Green Bay Packers (2-3)

(Last week: 18)

Monday: Lost to Las Vegas Raiders 17-13

First-round pick Lukas Van Ness has started slowly (eight tackles and one sack), but there’s plenty of depth in the Green Bay draft class. Second-rounders Luke Musgrave (tight end) and Jayden Reed (wide receiver) have combined for 31 catches and 369 yards, and fifth-round wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks has added seven catches for 95 yards.

27. Chicago Bears (1-4)

(Last week: 32)

Thursday: Beat Washington Commanders 40-20

There’s DJ Moore. The wide receiver Chicago got as part of the package for the No. 1 pick that became Bryce Young for Carolina had eight catches for 230 yards Thursday against Washington. He had 300 in the first four games of the season. Not coincidentally, Justin Fields had four touchdown passes and a 125.3 passer rating. The two best single-game passer ratings of Fields’ career have come in the last two weeks. Rookie first-round offensive tackle Darnell Wright has played every snap and showed some promise.

NFL Draft Order 2024 Projections: Patriots sliding, Bears still control the top five

The Bears finally picked up victory No. 1, leaving Carolina as the NFL’s lone winless team. How did this past weekend’s action shuffle the potential 2024 NFL Draft order?

To get an update on where things stand, we turn to Austin Mock’s projections. Mock projects the score for every game and the final win percentage for every team using his NFL betting model. The model phases out older data and uses data from this year as the season progresses. The simulation then runs 100,000 times after each day of games to give us, in this case, our projected top-10 draft order plus each team’s projected win total and playoff chances.

A few thoughts on this week’s projections:


1. Will New England land at No. 1?

It’s almost unfathomable to ask such a question, given what the Patriots have been under Bill Belichick. But New England arguably has been the worst team in football the past two weeks — losses to Dallas and New Orleans by a combined score of 72-3 — and owner Robert Kraft might have to ask some very difficult questions soon. Namely, is this the end of the line for Belichick?

Purely from a draft perspective, these are almost uncharted waters. Since taking over as Patriots head coach in 2000, Belichick has made just two top-10 draft picks: Richard Seymour (who’d go on to a Hall of Fame career) at No. 6 in 2001; Jerod Mayo at No. 10 in 2008. That’s the price of success, but it has put New England behind the eight ball as it tries to avoid a total teardown and rebuild.

Belichick’s team still hasn’t drifted into top-five territory in our projections, but it is trending the wrong way. Last week, New England sat at No. 10 with a projected-win total of 7.1 and a 15.9-percent shot at the playoffs. This week, it’s down to 6.3 projected wins and a 7.7-percent playoff chance.



2. A potentially chaotic top five

Let’s talk about this week’s projected setup for a moment. The Bears hold the No. 1 pick again (via Carolina; Chicago’s own pick moved from 1 to 3 after its Thursday night win in Washington). Unless they — and, specifically, QB Justin Fields — can orchestrate a near-complete 180 on the direction of their season, it is safe to pencil in Caleb Williams or Drake Maye to the Windy City.

That would leave the other QB for the No. 2 spot, which currently belongs to … Denver. The Broncos would have to sell that pick to the highest bidder, right? The alternative would be to grab an elite talent for QB Russell Wilson and the offense, like Marvin Harrison Jr., Brock Bowers or an offensive tackle. They’d be able to drive a hard price, though, with Arizona, the Giants, Washington, the Jets, New England and Minnesota — every team from 4 to 9 in our current projection — potentially at least looking at the QB market.

Harrison could be special enough to spark trade-up conversations in war rooms, too.


3. The Lions might run away in the NFC North


We can hear Lions fans out there screaming at us to shut up and not jinx anything — not exactly a group used to things falling their team’s way. But the numbers in this week’s projection are rather overwhelming. Detroit’s projected win total has climbed to 11.2 (behind only San Francisco, Philadelphia, Kansas City and Miami), while its division-title chance sits at a whopping 81.3 percent.

The Lions — the Detroit Lions — even have a projected Super Bowl title shot of 4.8 percent right now.

Green Bay, despite its Monday night mess in Las Vegas, is still hovering around the projected playoff picture (8.6 wins, 48.6-percent playoff chance). It’s a steep drop from there to a Justin Jefferson-less Minnesota (6.9 wins, 16.3-percent playoff chance) and Chicago. Outlooks can change in a hurry in the NFL, but this has been close to a dream start for Detroit.


4. Welcome (back) to the top 10 …

… Minnesota and Houston. As noted in our projections above, the Texans don’t actually own that pick — Arizona has it; Houston will still pick in the first round via Cleveland’s slot. So, the Texans’ tough Week 5 loss in Atlanta was excellent news for the Cardinals, who ultimately might have to cook up a multi-pick trade package to leapfrog teams for a quarterback.

As for the now 1-4 Vikings, their season appears to be teetering on the brink. They’ll be without Jefferson, their all-world WR, for at least four weeks after he landed on IR with a hamstring injury. And The Athletic’s Alec Lewis suggested that a Kirk Cousins trade might be something the front office has to consider, in hopes of preventing one bad year from turning into an extended rebuild.


5. Will we see the Titans here next week?

Tennessee couldn’t get past Indianapolis (and its backup QB, Gardner Minshew) Sunday, making this week’s matchup against Baltimore in London all the more important. The 2-3 Titans are just a game back in an AFC South division that might be entirely average again, but they’re also No. 12 in Mock’s latest projections, with a win total of 7.6 and playoff chance below 20 percent.

Another loss probably would kick Mike Vrabel’s Titans into the draft’s projected top 10 coming out of Week 6 — and heading into their bye. They don’t have an easy road following that week off, either. A Week 8 home game with playoff hopeful Atlanta precedes a Thursday nighter in Pittsburgh and back-to-back road trips to Tampa Bay and Jacksonville.
