    • Hearing that Mike Evans is available comes out of left field from my perspective if it’s true. First time that I’ve heard that.
Granted, the Bucs are certainly not going to be a good team in 2023. I can see why they should sell veterans this year at some point.

As for the Lions, yeah… hypothetically adding Mike Evans for a 3rd RD pick is worth if possible.

        • Detroit Lions
          2022 record: 9-8

Detroit’s draft was nitpicked out of the gate, but the overall haul brought a bundle of immediate starters. Jahmyr Gibbs looms as a backfield fascination beside free-agent signee David Montgomery. Fellow first-rounder Jack Campbell is a plug-and-play addition at linebacker, while tight end Sam LaPorta out of Iowa is already making waves. He was reportedly the "best player on the field ... by a wide margin" at rookie minicamp, lining up all over the place and setting fires after the catch. With second-year wideout Jameson Williams suspended for the first six games of the season, LaPorta’s in line for meaningful snaps out of the gate.

Much-needed help at safety was added via second-rounder Brian Branch and ball-hawking free-agent pickup C.J. Gardner-Johnson. With an eye toward tomorrow, the Lions also grabbed quarterback Hendon Hooker out of Tennessee in the third round. He won’t be needed anytime soon if Jared Goff picks up where he left off. The Lions boast one of the conference’s nastier rosters.

          • They may WANT more than a 3rd. Whether they GET more is the question.

            • Just to swing for the fence maybe 3rds in back to back drafts. Id do it. Dude is 6’5 and we need the size. I hope Detroit makes a play.

              • I don't see Mike Evans happening. I don't really see it coming from any reputable sources. Just tons of clickbaiting sites speculating with no grounds. I'd be fine with being wrong though lol.

                • Holdup. Mike Evans is set to earn 23 mil this year because he restructured. We have a good amount of cap bwe can’t even afford that.

its 14 mil next season which is doable but Holmes will be looking to the future. The Lions aren’t trading for that. We’re a few years away from having to resign our own players to long term deals.

                  • Dang, Lucas was cut. He played well in the preseason. I think the Lions are hoping to stash him but someone else will snatch him up. He’s played solid. That right there shows how much deeper that back end is compared to last season.

The LB too. Both areas of the defense went from a weak point to major strengths in 1 offseason

                    • Lucas was the one on Hard Knocks last year who said something like "Coach! Not gonna lie. I feel like I'm about to be GREAT!"

Was really rooting for him. Hope he does somehow stick on the PS.

                      • I thought he was a lock. If we keep a fullback and release a CB like that I’ll be a little irritated. Someone will grab him

James Houston Listed as Surprise Trade Candidate
Could the Detroit Lions trade James Houston?
In the past few days, rumors of the Detroit Lions parting ways with James Houston have started to make their way around NFL circles.

Houston presents the Lions an interesting dilemma, as he has a skillset that is coveted by every coach in the league.

Unfortunately, he still is not ready to be an every-down player in Aaron Glenn's defense.

That is not to say Houston cannot reach that level in a year or two in Detroit's system, but pundits have started to wonder if Brad Holmes would consider adding pieces or draft capital by trading Houston.

PFF, in a recent surprise NFL trade story, listed the former sixth-round pick as a surprise candidate to be traded.

"While preseason football is not quite the real product, there are still many different takeaways to be had from the action leading up to the regular season. Participation data can serve as a key indicator of a player’s location on the depth chart, for example, which made Houston’s 27 snaps in the second half of preseason Week 2 quite notable. Detroit rested the lion’s share of its starters and top contributors, yet Houston handled a significant workload in the second half."

In his rookie season, after spending the majority of his initial campaign on the Lions' practice squad, Houston recorded 17 quarterback pressures and eight sacks on just 92 pass-rush snaps.

In Holmes' tenure, first- and second-round picks have been used on on edge defenders. Additionally, with veterans like Romeo Okwara, Charles Harris and John Cominsky already on the roster, Houston could be expendable.

PFF explained further, "It appears Houston may be the odd man out in Detroit, but the Lions definitely shouldn’t release a player with three years of cheap control remaining who showed a knack for getting after the quarterback on limited snaps last season. Many teams would be happy to take a flier on a developmental pass-rush specialist coming off a season with an 88.2 pass-rush grade."

While it is understandable Houston's name will pop up in rumors, it is highly unlikely he will end up on another team this season.
