It's stupid in the sense that if you don't want players to be a risk of throwing games then you shouldn't be letting them bet on anything anywhere. Hell, I remember during my internship that we were instructed that we weren't allowed to bet on any sporting event period just because we would have access to the injury lists a handful of hours before the general public, and that was an advantage that we simply could not be permitted to have.

So was Swift. Even more so. Some still think of him more as a WR then a RB. Yaw take Sift for granted.

All I see is another season of excuses and apologies for a player who has produced nothing. Seriously, he needs something like 2000 yards and 10 tds in, hopefully, 10 games (I personally don't expect him to be a major factor nor will he be available for his 10 games). At this point all jameson is not more than a cap hit and dead money.

The bloom is off the rose for him. Either produce at an unworldly pace or send him packing and get someone who will be on the field. Talent is irrelevant when not playing.
Wow. We're really ready to throw the guy away because of this? Yeah, 6 games. He probably forgot where he was and just bet the bet without thinking. Now people are piling on and making this kid out to be useless. Some people need a fracking grip. I agree he needs to mature more, but most young people do. Cut him? Trade him? Oh, hales no.

Regardless of how dumb the rule is... it's not like it's some secret rule the NFL pulled out of the dustbins from the 1970s. There are at least two separate rookie symposiums that tell players coming into the league exactly what they can and can't do in terms of betting, and teams theoretically are supposed to be reinforcing those rules every offseason. It's not a good look by any stretch of the imagination.

That said, I sincerely doubt JaMo is going to miss 6 games; there's simply nothing about his actions that warrant it. Betting on non-NFL games during a voluntary session not even mandated by the team? I doubt the NFL is going to fight that particularly hard, nor would it hold up before an arbitrator even if they wanted to.
The Union agreed to it and it is set.

With these gambling apps, you must put location services on, because they have to know if it is in an area that prohibits the activity; requires some other kind of reporting etc...

So everyone that gambles on one of these sites "tell on themselves" because it is required really.

People "snitch" on themselves. This is true in this situation.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

      • AND YET, PLAYERS CAN PLAY FF AND HAVE LEAGUES (while legally betting money on these leagues) RIGHT IN THE LOCKER ROOMS.

Oh, and oh yeah, have it all on social media

It's like if your parents told you to not gamble and you say, "It's only fantasy football, it's not like gambling." A lot of older people who just not understand that it most certainly is gambling.

        • Apparently jameson was in Vegas this weekend posting a video on Instagram bragging about how much money he just won at the fight?

            • The optics are horrible. I've defended Jamo when a lot of Lions fans have had concerns about him and think he's been harshly treated with this ridiculous penalty (worse than many PED offenses), but at some point you've got to play the game (literally as well as figuratively).

Going to Vegas literally 2 days after you've been suspended for gambling looks moronic.

                      • Here’s my biggest issue with the whole no gambling at team facilities:

In partnering with gambling entities, the NFL is the one who opened up the door and let them in…they can’t keep gambling from the team facilities because it’s already there, even if they don’t allow their employees to partake.

I guess I understand….I just think that 1/3 of a season for this particular infraction is too harsh.

                        • It's a good point, I think it puts the teams that have mobile gambling at a disadvantage. What done is done though, it doesn't seem like the Lions have much recourse.

                            • Lions have invested a lot into him and he has too much raw talent to just give up on him this quick.
He’s not on a second contract so my as well just take the rough ride that will still may get you a good landing.

                              • Absolutely not.

No offence, but I’m glad you’re not the GM. Would be a horrendous waste of draft resources after trading up to get him.

He needs a good talking to from MCDC and Holmes and he needs senior players to put an arm round him and give him better advice. MJJ and ARSB, I’m looking at you.

Less slot machine, more JUGS machine. And yes, the suspension is way over the top.
