I'm higher than chemiclord on Goff. The team is 6th or 7th in Offensive DVOA. The team DVOA is 9th but the defensive DVOA Iis 28th. The big question is do believe in the second half defensive progress. If you do, they don't have as many holes to fill as they normally do.
I personally think that the defense is better than it was at the start of the year, but not nearly good enough to reliably make any noise in the playoffs. They are very weak up the middle, and that linebacker corps is below replacement level if I'm being generous. The secondary isn't much more set, either.

I figure they still need at least one more DT, two more linebackers, a CB1, and another safety.

    • Long story short......., the Mrs almost had a nervous breakdown 3 years ago because she realised she had been married to me for 12 years. ......., but the other reason was work related. She works at Edinburgh College as a Lecturer. She was part of a 7 lecturer team with a head "team leader" type lecturer. This person was saying things to some people, telling other people they didn't say some things to some people, telling people that other people said things, then denied they said these things, (everyone, including my wife thought they were losing their minds)......., and it came to light during a Covid laptop meeting thing with everyone present.

The person was given voluntary redundancy and is currently Scottish Gaslighting Champion

          Yeah that would do it.

          • I wish the Lions could have made the playoffs, I don't think any team wants to play that squad. With that said I'm kind of glad the season ended like this. We went out with a winning record and an extreme high. The team believes in itself and that's really important. They'll make the playoffs next year with Goff in a contract year with even more weapons around him.

            I love this team.

            • I sure as shit hope they resign Williams. We need that man on the squad next year. His player intro was legendary

              • Williams is gonna be all about cost….I think the Lions will have a number, but another team might be willing to offer him something stupid. He’s a good RB…and he’s got the the type intangible benefits that might lead a team to overpay.

                • He's 28 years old and a power back, so not necessarily the type to get a big paycheck. But, he doesn't have as much tread on him as other RBs his age due to the workload shares he's been in. And other teams may be willing to pay a premium for what he brings in the locker room too. Latavius Murray is a similar type of power pack that's gotten paid a couple of times after strong seasons to the tune of $15M. That's probably the ceiling he's looking at. Hopefully they find some common ground and he takes a little home team discount to stay.

                  • Unless he has a strong desire to stay with the team, he’s probably a goner.

I’d have to imagine someone is going to offer him over our price point. I hope to hell other teams undervalue him and he’s back next year.

                    • There's a lot of free agent running backs, I think Williams is back for a little higher rate than he was getting. From 4 million to 5 million.

                      • Fingers crossed. Hope Jamaal is back in 2023!

Assuming Brad Holmes will have a press conference tomorrow. It was on the Tuesday after the season in 2022. Can’t wait for that!

                        • Williams had a great season because he put the work in but he’s also playing behind an amazing OL.

                          • The line is very good, but we've seen a lot of retread power backs run through Detroit. It's much easier to get a Legarret Blount than a Jamaal Williams in free agency in my opinion.

                            • I think if the Lions give a number reasonably in the same ballpark as the "best" offer, Jamaal will stick around.

But yeah, if someone offers him "stupid" money, I would not fault the man for taking it nor the team wishing him luck and letting him go.

                              • I put this in the GBU thread but I guess it should go here too since it's not just about that game. Campbell calls out the OL.
