  • Statistically Jimmy G doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade. He should garner enough interest from teams that he’s not gonna be cheap. Continuity wise he’d be Learning a new offense and I don’t know where he is rehab-wise. And I’m afraid flipping him for Goff could be the first crack in the “We’re a family”/“It’s a business” schism that always sinks locker rooms.

And...the last time I looked Goff doesn't play defense. The early season defense is why they are not sitting starters right now, not Goff.
      Right on

I'd be happy if Richardson fell to us at # 17. Let's keep in mind that QB2 on the Detroit Lions is a real weakness. Sudfeld may be OK, but we really don't know for sure.

This idea that we should not draft a QB unless he is going to be Mahomes or Brady is totally unrealistic. Do the names Joey Harrington or Andre Ware ring a bell? They were top 7 picks who did nothing. It is a crap shoot, but you cannot win if you don't play. What is true in the NFL is that if you don't have a top QB, you are likely not going to contend for a Super Bowl. The Lions are in a position to pick Richardson and let him play behind Goff for a year.

        • The point about Mahomes is you wait until you see.a guy you really like. The Chiefs weren't looking to move on from Smith, but they were in love with Mahomes. You don't pick to pick.

I'm certainly not saying that. I'm saying if the Lions are going to draft a QB with one of those first round picks, then they better be damn sure that guy will be the next big thing (or as Froot more succinctly puts it "are in love" with that guy), because they have so many holes, and the odds that QB is going to be the BPA by the time the Lions are picking is VERY low.

Now, if there is some scenario where Stroud slides to #6 (or even more unrealistically to the middle of the round) and all the big defensive players are off the board? Sure, Stroud very likely would be the best available pure talent at that spot, and there's a more than decent chance he'd be an upgrade from Goff pretty damn quickly. But what are honestly the chances of that happening?

            • Quit looking at the stats and use your fucking eyeballs.

the stats don!t tell the tale here….the lions current record does.

Goff is pretty good when we win….and god awful when we lose. You all refuse to lay any blame for the losses at his feet (the D should have done more)….News flash: we haven’t earned a playoff spot. Quit acting like we have.

Fuck the stats….what’s the win percentage of those 2 QBs in the last 3 years? Don’t give me that statistical downgrade shit…that argument is a dog

              • Judging by the teams picking ahead of that Rams pick, no way Stroud makes it to 6.

Exactly. There's really no scenario where the best talent at the point either time the Lions pick in the first round would be a QB, and that's really the only reason the Lions should be picking one unless they are absolutely certain they see something in [insert name here] that would make him a clear and obvious upgrade from Jared Goff fairly quickly.

                  • He certainly wasn't god awful against the Eagles, Seahawks and Vikings. You seem to excuse away bad performances by Baker Mayfield and Deshaun Watson for any reason but are hypercritical of Jared Goff.

                    • Again…I’m not advocating drafting a QB.

I’m saying that it’s imperative that Goff reduce his cap number…and if he won’t do that the Lions should be prepared to walk away.

                      • It might be a semantically argument about the description god awful, Justin Fields was what I consider god awful last week. Goff was that at New England.

There are reasonable excuses (1.7 years away…playing with a dislocated shoulder…being traded to a team a week into camp)….

I guess you guys know a franchise QB when you see one. To me Goff isn’t the guy you build a team around.

And…since we’re bring up ancient history, when Goff wasn’t playing well early in the season….weren’t you one of the “Goff is Campbell/Holmes guy” and they should be on the hook for his performance? That was convenient when you were trying to tell us how bad Campbell was…

Goff is mediocre….and is not worth 1/6 of the Lions cap. I agree with McVay that he’s not a franchise QB

                          • My personal opinion and this isn't gaslighting is that it is hard to ask a QB to take a pay cut when he is top 7 in TDs, Yards, Rating and Yds/a

Well, he's not going to, so that kinda blows up that imperative, doesn't it?

My opinion on Campbell/Holmes getting the Ziggy was if they didn't start winning. Like if they finished with 2 or 3 wins. That was very clear in my arguments. They started winning and made the argument moot. I wasn't like the fellas in here arguing that it didn't matter if they had 1win or 7 wins in year two.
