  • You can choose what you want to believe but we aren't privy to the behind the scenes stuff. The most obvious explanation for waiting until now especially after picking up the 5th year option is that originally he was part of future plans but now isn't.

There are several possible reasons for that. Him wanting out is always a possibility even though he said he wanted to stay. For the purposes of this post though I'll assume he was being truthful. That leaves a few other reasons. Negotiations for a future deal didn't line up with what the team was willing to pay. Potential confidence in Brock Wright and/or James Mitchell. They could have been actively looking to ship him for either reason or a combo of both. Or they could have just been open to offers they received for the same reasons.

I'm fine with the deal, but don't piss on someone's head and say it's raining.
If you are 6-1, you have a defense that can stop somebody.
      Lions struggle to stop anybody.
Left with this reality - and a guy who wants to be paid top 5 money - you find ANYBODY who will take him.
The REALITY is this isn't a 6-1 team - get that fantasy out of your head.

      • I'm saying Brad Holmes is full of shit saying he would make that trade if the records were reversed. So you have no frame of reference here, Donny. You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know...

How on earth would the records be reversed in year 2? To a 6-1 tune?
I'll say this, he sees him not as a franchise TE - but as an average TE - and even 6-1 teams wouldn't pay an exorbitant premium to keep an average TE.
Shit, how many TE's of Hock's quality have left TB in the last 2 years - and have done SHIT? 2. The only one that did shit was the guy he coaxed out of retirement - who was an absolute stud.

          • What don't you understand? Holmes said today, that he would make the trade if the records were reversed. I say that is pure unadulterated bullshit. You are arguing something completely fucking different and unrelated to the comments of Brad Holmes. So you have no frame of reference here, Donny. You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know...

            • Holmes literally made the comment that he'd still make the trade if it made sense if their record was reversed. Froot isn't pulling it out of nowhere. I agree its a false statement from Holmes. Looking at it honestly he was probably trying to frame it as though they aren't giving up or tanking. That the move doesn't mean they are. Which, it might not. Doesn't change the fact that they would hang on to him for at least the remainder of this year if they were 6-1.

I agree on that aspect being BS. I do think though that there are logical explanations for why it wasn't done earlier.

              • “I look at it for it’s an opportunity for other guys,” Campbell said. “And as good as T.J. was, there’s things that we’ll be able to do better potentially. Having other guys on the field. I mean, that’s – there is always some of that give and take no matter what player’s out there.”

Is it just me or is that code for MF'er can't block?

What don't you understand. The guy has precedent; i.e. Brandin Cooks......
He's looking at the value of the player on his own merits - an if he doesn't see a reason to pay an EXHORBITANT amount of money for that guy - he trades him.....

                  • If they were 6-1, they were not trading him for an pick swap. You bring up Brandin Cooks as a precedent, he wasn't traded at the deadline, it's not a precedent at all. It was a bullshit rationalization from Holmes and you.

No, he was just an intergral part of a Championship caliber team in the middle of a run that he just decided he wasn't going to break the bank for - and traded him.
6-1 is pish - this guy was sitting on a gold mine and still traded Cooks......

                      • For it to be the same precedent, Holmes would have had to make the deal and it would have been at the deadline. The money was the same at the deadline, why didn't the Rams trade him then? They would have saved even more money.

The fact is, you didn't realize Holmes had that quote today and you don't want to admit you didn't know that.

                        • Nobody gives up players for a pick swap at the deadline if they are in first place. There is not many precedents if any.. The Brandon Cooks nonsense is pissing on somebody's head and telling them it's raining.

I tend to have a visceral reaction to buffoonery passing itself off as competence, I guess.
