I'm not at all convinced the Vikes are going to be able to keep this up. They'll win the division, I suspect, but they're going to be a very quick out against any real playoff team. I'm gonna guess that pick will somewhere in the early 20s.

    • They'll definitely need to get value on the draft picks because the Vikings will get value in Hockenson. He hadn't lived up to his draft status but he's still an above average TE at worst. I don't have an issue moving him though because the money didn't line up to the production going forward. No idea what the conditions are but I imagine it's for Minnesota to get a little protection for if he doesn't play well or enough.

      • To simplify if anyone else was confused.

        Lions get:
        2023 2nd round pick
        2024 3rd round pick

        Vikings get:
        Hockenson
        2023 4th round pick
        2024 4th round pick(conditional)

I haven't seen the conditions reported.

        • Hedging. Either the Vikings lose their playoff game OR the Lions draft position slightly improves.

          • I know TE's aren't built for speed, but there was one catch on Sunday where Hock's slowness seemed to cost them a TD. It felt like anyone else would have had a TD from it at the time. I don't recall if they wound up still getting a TD during that drive or not, so it may not have mattered. He just seemed really, really slow.

I agree with Ken that Hockenson's body language seemed to show someone who was not having much fun.

What's with all the in-division trading this regime keeps doing?

            • I'm not sure what the deal is with the in division trading. I honestly don't have an issue with it when it's draft picks. I don't like sending good players for unproven picks though.

              • I get why people hate this trade. I get why people don’t like it either.

But fact is, 88 never turned into the player the Lions wanted when drafting him. I say wish you the best Hock, but moving on towards resetting that position on the team, and moving towards the rebuild.

This is the part that annoys me. The Lions should already be deep in the rebuild. If you wanted to tear it down to the studs, the Lions should have been doing trades like this at some point in the last two offseasons, not now. The cynic in me says this was another CYA sort of move, so when Year 3 comes up a dud (which I guarantee it will), the Front Office can look at Sheila, point to moves like this, and say they have only just finished purging the roster, and so it's unreasonable to expect results until Year 4. You just gotta believe the team is on the right path, even if they have already demonstrated they're not.

And Sheila will eat it all up, and so will the rubes.

                  • Ha!

The responses were not kind to Detroit, as you can imagine. But most felt that T.J. looks like he actually morphed into a Viking already lol.

                    • That looks like a man that’s been fully Detroit Lion-ized.

                      Please no.
Like maybe it makes sense considering the contract, but Jamaal is the heart of the team and fanbase. So no.

                        • I don’t think JWil is going anywhere. But I do believe Eagles will get a RB somewhere.

Hock was not getting the money he will command in Detroit. So glad we got something.

It's more with the new MIN GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Holmes' needs to make ties in the AFC teams' offices.

And the slow thing? You can erase TJ and put 51 other Lions' names in there. This team is slow and can't run away from or catch anyone.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

                            • Well fuck, now I have to root for the Vikings to win a playoff game? That’s the worst part of this whole deal!

Fact is is that this team has not made utilizing him a priority. There was one game that they did this year and he had a monster game with 2 TDs. He's going to make all of you spewing that eat your words twice a year. HE isn't bad, but it made no sense to get or keep him because they had no idea how to use him. That is not on him.
