Rookie review: Breaking down the film of Kerby Joseph, Aidan Hutchinson

Examining how the Lions 2022 rookie class performed in Week 4 of the regular season.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

    • The new kicker is 3 of 10 from 50+ and 75 percent from 40-49. At least he's 96 percent on extra points I guess. Might end up a slight upgrade over Seibert but not by much.

Congratulations are in order for Lions quaarterback Jared Goff. His prolific passing in Detroit’s Week 4 loss to the Seattle Seahawks earned Goff the FedEx Air Player of the Week honor.

Goff won out over Seattle’s Geno Smith and Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers. He threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns in the Lions’ Week 4 matchup against Smith’s Seahawks.

It’s Goff’s second FedEx Air Player of the Week honor in a Lions uniform. He also won in Week 15 last season. Goff was also nominated this year in Week 2 but lost out to Tua Tagovailoa.

FedEx will donate $2,000 in Goff’s name to an HBCU scholarship fund.
What the hell does Geno got to do to get some recognition?
Geno may never see the CDD again in his career - it's his last best chance to bag some hardware.

            • On this last play, look at the three Lions that noticed the play and how they were not fast enough to get there. Even though the offensive player isn't a burner in his own right. This team is still slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwww

              • I like what they’re going to do with Thomas starting opposite of Harris allowing Hutch to move around. I don’t work for PFF and can confirm but I’ve read that Hutch has been one of the most double teamed players in the league.

If that’s true it’s cool they can move him around. Getting Paschal and the Okwara’s back would also help.

I read that too and I think it was quoting Dan Campbell.

                    • Pretty sure he means Demetrius Taylor. I'd temper my expectations for a guy whose name can't be remembered.

                        • Okudah with some praise from Barnwell as comeback player of the year candidate through the first 4 weeks:

                          3. Jeff Okudah, CB, Lions

Life hasn't gone exactly as planned for Okudah since entering the league as the No. 3 overall pick in 2020. He struggled badly in his debut season under Matt Patricia, who drafted the 6-foot-1 corner to be his version of Stephon Gilmore. After Patricia was fired after that season, Okudah tore his left Achilles in the 2021 season opener. There were serious questions about whether the Lions would pick up Okudah's fifth-year option without a significant improvement in 2022. Follow the NFL all season long

So far, so good. As Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf suggested last week, the Lions are giving Okudah plenty of help over the top in coverage, but the 23-year-old is playing like a legitimate NFL cornerback. Okudah has allowed a 95.1 passer rating in coverage this season, down from a mark of 118 as a rookie.

NFL Next Gen Stats say he has allowed a completion percentage 5.6 points below expectation on his 20 targets this season, and he has broken up three passes in the process. He has been the No. 1 corner on a Lions defense that plays man coverage as often as any other team. The numbers aren't top-five-pick-worthy yet, but after two years of disappointments, Okudah is on the field and looking competent.

Because he has no leg. You can find kickers that are reliable from 40 and in like him. Guys that can reliably make long fg's are not as easy to find.

Why this fan base is infatuated with the guy who made all of 4 fgs from 40+ last year is beyond me.
