  • Brockers is the only player on the roster over 30. He was signed to have a veteran on the D-line to hold down the fort while the kids learned. I'm sure they had hoped he'd be better than he has been. I just don't think they expected him to be a future building block of the defense. They'll be able to move on next year for good savings.

      Good question.

      • Detroit Lions NFL roster news kicker Dominik Eberle cut after poor showing against Seattle Seahawks.

After kicker Dominik Eberle, who was filling in for the injured Austin Seibert, missed two extra points in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, it was quite apparent his days were numbered in Detroit.

To add insult to injury, having a kickoff sail out of bounds, costing the team precious field position, likely sealed Eberle's fate in Motown.
With starting kicker Austin Seibert nursing a groin injury, the Detroit Lions are reportedly signing veteran Michael Badgley to the practice squad, according to the NFL Network.

Undrafted out of the University of Miami in 2018, Badgley spent his first three seasons with the Chargers, appearing in 34 games and making 52-of-65 field goal attempts (80.0%) with a long of 59 yards. After struggling in 2020, he was cut by the Chargers heading into the 2021 season.

Badgley has spent time with four teams since being let go by the Chargers, most recently suiting up for the Chicago Bears, where made all four of his field goals as an injury replacement last Sunday. He was released the following day.

No shocker moving on from Eberle. Badgley make kicks last week for Chicago. Not sure by how much but feels like an upgrade.

As I have said, he is better on the sideline, being a mentor, then on the field.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

            • While I realize this isn’t “Lions news”…..it really seems like our accomplishment too:

              • And people say the Lions don't help players take big steps. Tell me another coaching staff that has ever gotten Geno Smith NFC player of the week, and on the road. Lions are making dreams come true.

                    • Dan Campbell says the Lions lack confidence on defense

The Lions are on pace to allow the most points in NFL history, so it’s unsurprising that their defensive players aren’t feeling good about themselves.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said confidence is severely lacking on his defense, and it’s something the coaches need to instill in the players.

“Well, I know this, we lack confidence. That’s very clear to see, that’s one element to it,” Campbell said, via ESPN. “We lack a lot of confidence, and so certainly to do that you have to have production in games and have success and stop your opponents, get some stops, things of that nature. So we’re lacking some confidence in areas, and then there again we’re still making errors that falls into our boat as coaches. That’s on us.”

Campbell has made clear that he’s still confident in defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s ability to turn the defense around. Through four games, however, there’s not a lot of reason for anyone else to be confident that the Lions can stop anybody.

                        • Levi Onwuzurike not progressing in recovery from his back injury

The Detroit Lions defensive line has not been playing well lately, and one of the players who was expected to be a key piece remains sidelined. Based on what head coach Dan Campbell said on Monday, it seems unlikely Levi Onwuzurike will be able to help anytime soon.

Campbell was asked about the progress of Onwuzurike, who has been on injured reserve all season with a back injury. Earlier this summer, Campbell described Onwuzurike’s recovery as “a snail’s pace”. It seems that the snail isn’t accelerating.

“That meter is not moving,” Campbell responded when asked if Onwuzurike was getting closer to returning.

Onwuzurike’s back injury dates back to his college days at Washington. He was able to play through the injury in his rookie season in 2021, though the second-round pick was not impactful in his play.

                          • Back and Head injuries should be big red flags. Maybe it was for 31 other teams.

He could have been recovered and healthy, but those 2 injuries seem to compound and can come back at any moment.

Congratulations are in order for Lions quaarterback Jared Goff. His prolific passing in Detroit’s Week 4 loss to the Seattle Seahawks earned Goff the FedEx Air Player of the Week honor.

Goff won out over Seattle’s Geno Smith and Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers. He threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns in the Lions’ Week 4 matchup against Smith’s Seahawks.

It’s Goff’s second FedEx Air Player of the Week honor in a Lions uniform. He also won in Week 15 last season. Goff was also nominated this year in Week 2 but lost out to Tua Tagovailoa.

FedEx will donate $2,000 in Goff’s name to an HBCU scholarship fund.
