I was going to say this as well. He's been up as a returner. I'd rather see him getting carries over Reynolds. He's only 200 lbs so he's definitely not your every down guy. If Jamaal is getting the bulk of the work though Jackson makes a lot more sense than Reynolds to feed 5-10 carries.

    • Don’t care what ranked RT Sewell is….or how many consecutive games with a catch St. Brown has…..or that we’ve opened ## quarters with a TD.

Yes…This regime seems to be doing it right. But blowing a 10 pt lead in the last 5 minutes to a division opponent is SOL bullshit. Going 3 and out and giving the ball back was inexcusable….even for Campbell

I thought this as well, if Swift is going to miss some time with the shoulder, can the Lions put him on the short term (4 weeks?) IR and call up Jackson? I know they always hope to get players back sooner but I hate to see a roster spot get held up by an injured player when someone able to contribute can be brought up.

        • I think we're at the point where we put Swift on permanent IR, then the waiver wire at the end of the season.

How much longer are we going to pin our hopes on a guy that can't stay healthy?

          • Kinda what we do with RB's ever since the last time Sanders played.

What's the point wringing our hands over someone who can't stay on the field?

Seriously? What do you do? Keep hoping that he'll stop being made of glass?

I didn't see the game but I did see how wide open that WR was who caught the winning score.
You get scared for WR's when they are that wide open.

Usually you have an informed and rational opinion. You've been absolutely bonkers since this loss.

                    • Swift doesn’t deserve a long term contract extension given his durability concerns. I think the Seahawks’ Rashaad Penny signed a 1 year, mid-level extension with incentives… that’s exactly what Swift is worth at this time. I’m looking at that idea for 2024.
Granted… Understanding our Detroit Lions history, it would seem like the Lions will draft a RB high in this 2023 or 2024 NFL Draft. Here we go again… 😅

Same for Hockenson. He obviously doesn’t deserve top 5 TE money based on his production. The rumored money Hockenson was seeking during the offseason. So underwhelming since his hot start in 2021 with his dominant training camp. Not the same player in the last 11 months.

It's a serious question. How much longer do we wait to hope this guy can stay on the field? It's been three years, and it sounds like he's going to miss significant time in all three years!

It's time to move on. If it's going to be prohibitively expensive to just cut him loose, fine... keep him, but it's time to start looking for someone else. We can't count on him.

                        • As long as Swift is on the rookie deal, he should stay....but if he wants 10 mil plus then you make that decision to move on...but the key is you have someone in place ready to move into that spot....They dont have that guy on the roster at the moment.

                          Comment

                          • Now, that said, the reason I say just cut him at the end of the year is because (at least from my experience) once a team has made it clear that they have acquired someone to replace [x], [x] rarely takes it well, and the drama caused generally isn't worth the cost of keeping him on the roster. Once you have decided it's time to move on, the better part of valor is to make it a clean break.

I personally have had enough of waiting for Swift, and think it's time to move on. You may certainly disagree.

                            • Swift injuries are concerning, but he is what we have. He is on the books for 2.7 next year, which for dollar value is great for what he brings. I wouldn't want to see him cut. I think the issue is the Lions are relying on him staying healthy. I like Williams for the change of pace but if Swift is our main back, we need someone else who can be an RB1.

                              • What he brings is nothing if he's on crutches or in the hot tub.

And the instant you bring in another RB1, you have a potential powder keg. If you're committed to getting a new RB1, you can't let the current RB1 linger around like a stale breeze.

You can hope you have a Garrapollo situation, but more likely than not, you have a Mayfield situation on your hands.
