If I'm the GM, I'm only drafting a quarterback that I project to be the starter. These guys looked better the first two weeks but they looked like hot garbage today. If they can find someone on the waiver wire, they should go for it but I suspect there won't be anything there. The league is full of crappy backup quarterbacks.

The Lions know who their starting quarterback is, and they have seen enough of Jared Goff in the preseason. He played 10 snaps in the exhibition opener and led the team to a touchdown.
What they don’t know is who is going to be Goff’s backup.
David Blough and Tim Boyle have been inconsistent. Blough started last week, and Boyle will start this week against the Steelers as the competition continues.
“What we need is, we need somebody to really take the reins here,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said, via Tim Twentyman of the team website. “Somebody needs to step up.”
Blough has played 83 snaps this preseason, completing 34 of 50 passes for 217 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also lost a fumble late in the first preseason game that allowed the Falcons to score the game-winning touchdown on a 33-yard drive in the final two minutes.
Boyle has played 60 snaps and is 21-of-37 for 210 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Campbell acknowledged the team’s backup quarterback might not currently be on the roster. Detroit has been mentioned as a possible landing spot for Mason Rudolph if the Steelers choose to trade the veteran backup. Rudolph is the likely third quarterback in Pittsburgh with Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett in front of him.

The Lions don't have to be this shitty on the QB depth chart. They choose to be. Whether that's for a good reason or not can be up for debate.Last edited by chemiclord; August 28, 2022, 08:17 PM.

A season ending injury isn't the only injury scenario though. You can at least try to find a guy that won't be a turnover machine. So if Goff is out for a small period of time at least the team has a chance to get a W instead of absolutely zero.

I haven’t changed my thoughts on this since a few weeks ago. Lions need to cut Boyle AND Blough for the initial 53 man roster.
It’s highly unlikely another NFL team will claim either of them off waivers because they’re so bad. If one of them is miraculously claimed, I don’t even care. Lions aren’t missing out.
After Onwuzurike, Melifonwu, and/ or J Okwara are placed on PUP… then you re-sign Blough or Boyle on the final 53 man roster heading into week 1.
Very obvious plan IMO. Cut both backup QBs. Easy. I don’t want to lose Logan Stenberg for nothing here.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

I thought Chase Daniel was just as bad as these guys. When they had Hill and Stanton, it was the only time since the mid 90s that they had any decent backups.
I personally do not get what they see in either Boyle or Blough, but I am much more pessimistic than most people in here about how many good NFL quarterbacks there are.
Like I said in a previous post, they looked better the first two weeks but hot garbage today. If they play weaker competition in the NFL with the full assortment, they can eek out some wins.

I'd love it if Goff took a couple steps forward and showed that he was the solution at QB. Then I'd love it if they somehow got Gardner Minshew to be his back-up.
Barring that, I expect the Lions to draft in the top 10 next year, and hopefully find their QB of the future. I suspect they'll be getting the 3rd Qb drafted, which will be after Stroud and Young. But I wouldn't be surprised if Young drops due to concerns about his size."To alcohol! The cause of—and solution to—all of life's problems." —Homer Simpson, 1997
