    • I hope the Lions mix in 1s and 2s based on what MCDC said yesterday. No reason to play the starting OTs, Ragnow, Swift, or Goff. An injury to a starting OT or Goff tanks the season in a big way.

If the Steelers are playing their 1s, why not mix in Tom Kennedy with the 1s to see what he can do? That’s the big question about Kennedy… can he produce against real competition.

      …

Barring injuries in the next few weeks, I’m ready to predict a 9-8 season for the Lions. More to come next week with my prediction.

"Good" is subjective right? And I think it is more positional then an overall thing. WR? Sure. QB. No where close. And in some positions I think they are fairly equal with no one truly standing out so much. Like CB.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Dan Campbell let Lions’ players run today’s practice, coaches didn’t participate

Lions head coach Dan Campbell took an unusual approach to today’s practice: No coaching allowed.

Campbell attended today’s practice but only watched, without participating. None of his assistants were even at practice at all.

Instead, the players ran the show in a short practice, without full pads, and did situational work that the players organized on their own without any coaching.

We’ll find out on this week’s Hard Knocks how the Lions’ practice went. The Lions’ assistant coaches will find out, too.

          • Is there any way to cut both backup QBs? If one is unclaimed, he could return. There will be a lot of comparable QBs cut by other teams, I expect.

            • Oh, I'd wager there are UPGRADES easily available if the Lions want them. Both Boyle and Blough are well below replacement level.

The question is would it really matter at the end of the day? Even a better backup QB is still pretty trash on average.

                  Agreed.

Rags, Sewell, Decker, Hutch, Goff, Swift and McNeill can all sit. Not play a down.

I was thinking that cutting both QBs would yield one more roster spot. The talk was about having too many good players (something I definitely do not agree with).

                    • Lions place 3 players on Reserve/PUP, 1 on Reserve/NFI

Detroit Lions fans won't see rookie wide receiver Jameson Williams or rookie defensive lineman Josh Paschal on the field until October at the earliest.

The team had to get from 85 players on the roster to 80 by today's 4 p.m. deadline, and got there by moving some players from Active/NFI and Active/PUP to the reserve status for both lists, and by releasing veteran linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton.

Both Williams and Paschal haven't taken part in training camp or the preseason as they've been rehabbing injuries.

Williams tore his ACL in the college National Championship Game in January while he was playing for Alabama. He's been on NFI (non-football injury) because the injury happened while he was in college.

I think the player ran practice is a cool idea. These are the really trying times of camp. I’m sure everyone is sick of the same shit. It livens it up a bit.

                        • Two injured round 2 picks in two years continues the Lions round of misery.

Please, next year no second rounders with ANY injury concerns. Swift and Slay are the only two hits I can remember.
