The fact is, you didn't realize Holmes had that quote today and you don't want to admit you didn't know that.
This is pish. He traded a 4 time 1,000 yard receiver - in the middle of a 5 year Championship run.
I mean shit, who does that? Few if any, so why are you surprised by his comments.
They literally seem genuine - albeit confusing.

Paying Hock 15 million is insanity. To that I'm sure there is 100% agreement.
Whether the Lions were 1-6 or 6-1 - if you have that kind of player asking for that kind of money - you might want to just rid yourself of him - and get what you can get.
Even if it is peanuts - it's still better than nothing - if the sign all the best FA brigade has their say.

If you're 6-1 you're not worried about what he's asking in 2 years time. You worry about that the following offseason if you're so certain you can't reach a suitable agreement. What you don't do is make yourself weaker at the trade deadline with a team that's in contention. That would be absolute insanity.

Where do you keep on saying 15 million? He was due.10 million next year, not 15. Get your facts straight.

        • Those Holmes comments make him a less credible figure. Nobody is trading a guy at the deadline if they are 6-1. There is no precedent for a deadline trade like that.

He's hoping the majority of fans, media, and his boss are stupid enough to buy that and give him a pass.

            Unfortunately, he's probably right.

            • There is probably a kernel of truth there. I just think it is a stupid comment that shows how inexperienced he is at this. That's a quote you might expect from Al Avila and you never want to go the full Al Avila.

They were laughing about it on the local news.

No, you're probably right. You'd think I'd remind myself of the old axiom, "Never attribute to malice that you can attribute to incompetence."

                • I think a second rounder and third is probably over expected value for Hockenson even with the 4th's going back or a 4 and 5. I highly doubt you'd get a better offer in the offseason, he's an attractive target now due to the sub 1m base salary fitting him under the cap for a team in need.

                  • That's if you can even find a buyer at all in the offseason while teams have more options to address the position.

                    • But we are giving up two high 4ths for a low 2nd and low 3rd.
"Yeah, we just... we don't want them to go. So that's our motivation."

Is this the Lions News thread or the Politics thread? Lol.

That's why I said he needs to STFU. Nothing he can say sans, "This was a drop dead great deal. Hales, did you see what CHI got for R Smith? We beat that. Good deal for us."
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

All you knew the deal when they signed us up with these newbies. At times it would seem exciting (just like young new players) but more times we'd have to suffer through bad decisions and acts because they're learning (just like young new players). People are people and when your new you screw things up. The hope is the learning comes quickly and they don't repeat bad decisions.

My most disappointing thing about that Holmes mini presser is no one asked him if he would still value injured players in acquisition. Maybe it's an off season question, but I want that question answered.

                            • Jared Goff on T.J. Hockenson trade: Sucks going through that as a teammate

Posted by Josh Alper on November 3, 2022, 7:02 AM EDT

Lions head coach Dan Campbell pitched the team’s decision to trade tight end T.J. Hockenson to the Vikings as an increased opportunity for other players to make their mark, but another reaction would be to say that the Lions are prioritizing the future over what’s left of their 2022 schedule.

Quarterback Jared Goff said on Wednesday that Hockenson is a “tremendous player” and that he trusted the team’s decisions were made in the “best interests” of the team before he was asked if he felt the trade was waving a white flag for this year. Goff replied that “it’s not my decision” and went on to talk about the difficulty of saying farewell to a teammate.

“It sucks going through that as a teammate, mostly just seeing him in the building every day, not being able to be around him,” Goff said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “But yeah, I wish him the best and I know he’ll be successful in doing his thing. Happy for him and hope everything works out for him.”

If all works out for Hockenson, he’ll be in Minnesota for a long run and the Lions will be tasked with trying to beat him twice a season. This offseason should bring plenty of discussion about how long the Lions believe it is in their best interests to have Goff leading the offense in that task.

You are arguing something completely fucking different and unrelated to the comments of Brad Holmes. So you have no frame of reference here, Donny. It might not be BS. If the Lions were 6-1 and Hock had performed exactly the same, and was expecting top 5 TE money, and they were offered a 2nd and a 3rd I think they still pull the trigger.
