  • Basically a 5th rounder in 2025 and swapping what will likely be similar picks in 2026.

Not a bad deal at all.

    • Who was it that said the next 5 games would be the test of the Lions season? I think that GB was the 4th game.

Yep, about what you would have expected. How we can all relax a little bit.

Good deal and they have him for next year on a decent contract if he pans out for this stretch run

          • I'm not super excited but didn't give up much. Maybe they can get a few more productive snaps out of him.

            Days not done though...

            • I doubt they make any other moves, the 2025 draft picks are pretty depleted. Smith has 27 pressures and 5 sacks already this year. His PFF grade is 73. This is about exciting as an NFL trade deadline move can be.

              • Having Trevor Nowasake play as impressive as he has played has been a bonus and probably alleviated a need for another trade. Big change in the defense against Green Bay was the prevalence of the 3-3-5 stack defense. 3 linebackers, 3 down lineman and nickel coverage. Nowaske has allowed that. You give up the run a bit but the pass defense has been really good because of it. The back half is pretty good.

if they could pry Calais Campbell from Miami for a 7th, I would approve. But a few teams are trying to get him.

                • I mean, considering that Holmes allegedly called a lot of teams, I guess it's in the realm of the possible that someone else gives him a deal he bites on. Maybe. I suppose.

Yeah, because they traded 3rd and 4th round picks for a long-term developmental OT who won't see the field for 3 years and a 4th string RB.

(Sorry, need to stay true to my bit )

                        • I'm completely surprised we signed someone after Chemi arrogantly and positively stated Holmes was done in the trade market and was going to ride the rest of the year with what we have. I guess he forgot to tell Brad Holmes he was done.
                          GO LIONS "24" !!

Hell, I didn't even say he was done. I doubted he even particularly started. Like, I figured he made some calls, decided the price wasn't worth it, and moved on. But he kept calling, and finally got something to happen at the 11th hour, and not for much scratch either.

I guess he was playing a game of chicken with the Browns for a while, and the Browns appear to have blinked. I do wonder if Smith's outright declared preference to play for the Lions scared off other potential suitors.

                            • Kinda interesting. There's a Lions fan working for a car dealership in Cleveland that was asked by Smith to get a car immediately. He asked why and Smith said he was driving to Michigan.

Here's the guy's original reddit thread, which was deleted by mods because they assumed he was trolling (pretending you know something because you had contact with a player or agent is actually a common troll tactic on reddit. People often joke that they "know something because they are limo drivers")
