If that was the plan going in with the OK from the owner then she's not likely to fire them after year two. Maybe only one or two wins is a deal-breaker but that may not even be. You may be looking at the 4th year due to rookie some are dreading.
They were forced into this roster with cap limitations the last 2 years. No team in the NFL can compete void of talent and $60 million in dead cap. The expectations of some that Lions should be the Eagles cause the Eagles had a down year once is absurd.

Can't fix 60 years of basement dwelling in one season.

That's the other part of this grand experiment. Do/Did we have to go full young? I understand the cleansing that was needed and the ramifications of that, but can we get some vets in here next off season? Not just LAR/NO cast off JAGS. Really good top shelf FAs. Right now the best FA acquisition is Big V and he was Quintricia guy.

Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

            • The Giants are brought up because they are nearly as young. Dave Gettleman was as much a disaster as Bob Quinn. It doesn't take that long.

Kreton keeps on bringing up salary cap nonsense, but they had 36 million dollars in cap space this year, which was 6th most. They had space, they weren't cap strapped, they are going to have to waive 2 guys to get at least that much space this year.
There's an argument to be made that we're witnessing the more futile era of Detroit Lions football ever. And that's saying something.

The Cowboys are 5-2 and are nearly as young as the Lions. Same average age as the Giants.

This isn't the NBA where being young hurts, it shouldn't be an excuse.

                • And truthfully Froot probably is right. You just can't do it this early. The players would never understand. Even if they thought he may have cost them a game or two, I doubt they think he and his staff deserves the ziggy.

I remember that day we knew Patricia wasn't going to work. Game 1 against the NYJ I believe it was. Froot called for his head after that game.

I did see better in that last game and I put that loss squarely on Williams' and Goff's shoulders. Now they face another team this week that is way more talented (and a couple years further in their own rebuild). Let's see how far we still have to go. I don't see us coming out on top. Miami's acquisition of top talent over the last 6 years is something only Cleveland can match.

This has not been done by an NFL team in my recollection. The only reason their average age isn't drastically lower is because of Brockers and Anzalone. Neither are positive difference makers.

The difference is our +28 yr olds that are talented are, Decker. End of list. They also have many players that have been there and playing well for over 2 years. If you take every player that has been with our team less then 2 years away, you couldn't field 11 players.

Giants have many players, including Saquon and Jones. Take them away and what do they have? Cowboys have many to name, including Dak and Elliot.

They are not the same situation as us. Sheila, Campbell and Holmes decided to go the homegrown and develop route.

THIS is a grand experiment that will work fabulously, or flame out embarrassingly. Right now it looks closer to the later.

                    • I'm not saying they have an excuse. I'm saying the timeline is different. It has to be. Rookies always come in and are surrounded by veteran players that help show them the ropes along with the coaches. Rookies here are surrounded by rookies and second year players still learning themselves. And all are trying to find their way. The Pistons and Lions are actually a lot alike in that way. I just don't know if it will work in the NFL. By this timeline, if it does, everyone will be coming up for contracts and we'll lose a bunch of good players anyway. Or it'll flame out and we'll just keep adding players as these leave.

                      • Plus their best veteran coach is now in Denver, Capers. So even the staff is green. And I mean the whole staff

                        • Jared Goff working to eliminate “bad habit” that’s contributed to turnovers

After the Lions lost to the Cowboys last Sunday, head coach Dan Campbell said that “you can’t play for us” if you can’t hold onto the football because turnovers are “too devastating” for the 1-5 team to overcome.

It was hard not to think about quarterback Jared Goff in relation to those comments. Goff has been responsible for six turnovers over the last two games and the team believes it has identified part of what’s gone wrong for him.

Campbell said they have to “refocus him on awareness in the pocket” heading into this Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. Goff said that he feels he got off track against the Patriots in Week Six and is working to get back to where he needs to be in the weeks to come.

“It’s just stepping up a little bit. I think in the last — again, like for most of the season I’ve done a good job with it, developed maybe a bad habit in the New England game,” Goff said, via John Maakaron of SI.com. “And just sliding back a little bit and just need to step up and help those guys out. Be up in the pocket a little bit more. Those tackle jobs are hard enough. When I get too deep, we have a yard mark and when I’m past that it’s on me. So, just make sure I’m within that and just do my job that way.”

Goff had three turnovers in the team’s first four games, so it’s been a significant spike but the Lions haven’t been winning games whether he gives the ball away or not. That’s a bigger problem for the Lions to address and no one will be surprised if the offseason includes a change at quarterback designed to make that happen.

                            • D’Andre Swift fully participates in practice, Amon-Ra St. Brown limited

Running back D'Andre Swift missed his third straight game with ankle and shoulder injuries last weekend, but the practice week started with a positive sign about his chances of playing this week.

Swift was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. Swift was limited in practice all of last week before being listed as questionable to play against the Cowboys and he ultimately landed on the inactive list.

Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was limited in practice as he works his way through the concussion protocol. St. Brown was not diagnosed with a concussion last Sunday, but entered the protocol because he displayed instability during the game.

Safety DeShon Elliott (finger), defensive end Charles Harris (groin), tight end T.J. Hockenson (knee), cornerback Mike Hughes (knee), guard Jonah Jackson (neck), cornerback Chase Lucas (ankle), safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle), tackle Matt Nelson (calf), and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (knee) did not practice. Tackle Taylor Decker (neck) and center Frank Ragnow (foot) were both listed as limited participants.
