I must be following different Detroit media sources if it’s perceived as negative. Freep/ Birkett, POD, occasionally Meike at MLive, and also occasionally Valenti on YouTube if I’m up for it. Seems like a nice blend of slightly positive and realistic from my perspective.
Negative sports coverage is more like ESPN or national sports media’s obsession with big brands. Yankees, LeBron, Cowboys/ NFC East in general, etc.
“I have this like...and I probably need to drop it pretty soon because I’m hopefully going to be in Detroit for a very long time. But I have this thing with our local media where they almost like relish in negativity at times.
He's exactly right. Drew Sharp did it until he died then they brought in Carlos Moron-ez
"Your division isn't going through Green Bay it's going through Detroit for the next five years" - Rex Ryan
The beat writers are really good and have honest takes on the team - Birkett, Meinke, Rogers, the Pride of Detroit guys, Woodward Sports, etc. But the negative / hot take guys can be so loud, especially if they have a prime radio spot like Valenti. Monnarez is just a straight troll. Pat Caputo in the same bucket. So my guess is Goff hears or sees that stuff more often than the smart stuff done by those other guys because they aren't shouting it at the top of their lungs.
Detroit sports writers for the Lions have always been fairly negative but truthfully it’s been for good reason. We’ve been one of the worst franchises in NFL history. You don’t want negative press, win.
They’re winning now and everything should change but Carlos M is a f’ing ahole that should be shown the door. We don’t need him being a heel anymore. Valenti too, that person brings nothing but garbage to the air. I’m not sure how anyone even listens to his garbage for the Lions. If he’s good at college football or other pro sports I wouldn’t know because he’s just not interesting.
F#*K OHIO!!!
You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.
I think Skip Bayless and Stephan A are equally as bad on the national stage. I have no idea how those people are still on the air. They spew hot garbage and aren’t entertaining in the least but for some reason their shit gets views and clicks.

The biggest difference nowadays is they know exactly who is reading what. 30 years ago the newspapers had no clue what articles were being read. Negative news draws money.

I don't listen/watch ESPN much but Steven A does usually put together a good argument and he is branching out. You are starting to see him pop up on places like CNN to give a political take.
Bayless on the other hand just blows hot air.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR
I never thought Sharpe was unfair in his criticism of the Lions. Monarez is just awful. I could never take him seriously after he basically lobbied for Patricia to keep his job.
I’m not holding my breath about the uniform change. I don’t think anything can beat the throwbacks. If it does, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
