My guess is that he's trying to secure a 2-3 year deal, and no one is biting yet.

I don't see it. We need a big bodied WR to go along with St Brown and JaMo. If a blue chip falls to them in the 1st they might go there. This team is built for offense, i'd feed that all day long.F#*K OHIO!!!

But what he will do is play the draft to get value and find players that are not only the best players but best matches. Perfect example is Gibbs again, believes is value is top 10, but thinks his value in the draft might be a little lower and moves back, gets picks, still drafts Gibbs. If he doesn't get Montgomery, chances are he takes Gibbs at 6. In the end even if a player is targeted he will have the flexibility by filling all roles prior to the draft, move into place to pick them up at roughly their value in the draft making them BPA.
As Chemiclord said, his philosophy is complex and shouldn't be boiled down simply. Of course, I'm stupid enough to try a simplification:
It appears that he divides players into tiers. He then takes those tiers and further filters by culture fit -- and most of those non-fits are not considered for his board directly, but I'm sure inform his big board of what to expect from the draft. He then also looks at his current and future team needs and how those players can fill it and where the best combination of talent, culture and need are likely to fall in the draft and how he best can go about filling needs with ideal players and trade into the best value for those players.
Honestly, his series of trades to move down in the draft to the early 3rd to pick up Hooker and then using that accumulated draft stock to move up and get Martin was masterful. I enjoy that more than actual Lions games, lol.Last edited by El Axe; March 16, 2024, 03:30 PM.

I love the Donovan Jones signing. Talent wise, he has the ceiling of a top end wideout but he's never produced like that. With St Brown being an All Pro caliber and JaMo emerging we only need him to be a WR3 - WR4. He's got that all day long. It'll give him a full year with the playbook and a training camp under his belt. That's a really nice move in keeping him.F#*K OHIO!!!

Less pressure to re-sign Reynolds because DPJ fills that roster hole on the cheap end. The Lions could always bring back Reynolds depending on the market or draft a WR.
Still could use a cheap veteran G.
Kevin Zeitler, Dalton Risner, or LakenTomlinson? Holmes’ Lions have kept 5 or 6 interior OLinemen on the final 53. The current roster only has 4 that we should feel fine with in Ragnow, Glasgow, Sorsdal, and Awosika. Then hopefully draft someone.
Edge (Mike Danna?) and safety (Quandre Diggs?) could use more depth too.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill
