  • Ownership is always a factor. Sometimes the impact owners have is overplayed, but at the end of the day, if they hire competent people to steer their ship, it has a tendency of filtering down from there.

And we're both old enough to recall how rudderless and lifeless it was under Sheila Ford Hamp's late father, similar to how out of his element Tom Gores is with the Detroit Pistons.

I won't bring in the article Carlos wrote today, but suffice to say that he still hasn't learned a single thing.

          • Good news:

Unless the NFL says otherwise, it looks like the Lions won't host a home game overseas next season.

            From the Athletic (paywall):

The (Philadelphia) Eagles are one of five designated teams slated to play international games in 2024. The Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars will play in London, U.K. while the Carolina Panthers will play in Munich, Germany.

            • While I appreciate any takedown of that douche Carlos Monnarez, Holmes got a little too hung up there. There are going to be days when everything he intentionally does probably doesn’t turn out great. So just take a quick victory lap and move on.

I enjoyed watching Mr. Holmes doing it to Carlos and the other Free Press writer as well.

Brad Holmes isn't Matt Millen, Martin Mayhew, or Bob Quinn.

He knows what the heck he's doing.

He will make a miss (and I'm still on the fence with Jamo), but I can see why he did what he did for any moves that he makes.

The other prior GMs, especially Millen and Mayhew, and Quinn to an large extent, seemed like they threw a dart to a name on a draft board just to see which person would stick.

I remember when Joe D had a 4-5 year stretch when nearly everything he did was great (Darko exception), he gave an interview where he said being a GM is not that hard. They had just won a championship a few years after taking over. Pretty much every move after McDyess did not pan out.

Yeah, I like that he called out Carlos, but I think maybe he is taking a victory lap before he gets the finish line

I didn’t think he was all that confrontational about it. Yeah he stuck it to him a bit but not anything more than MCDC did when he called reporters out

These guys are people too. He didn’t go all Bellicheck on him
                        F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

                        • I’m sure part of it is defending the youngsters who have to hear all that negativity out of the gate and making the reporters pause a bit before the next time they decide to rip a draft pick.

I didn’t mind it. I’m pretty sure Carlos gets paid for the negativity, so a little call out after a good season is understandable
