  • Heard some ridiculous complaining on social media about Lions injuries. The Mims situation sparking it in recent days.

I actually think this is the healthiest the Lions have been entering a season in quite a while. For example, POD did a Lions player ranking prior to training camp. The top ~47 Lions players (excluding Moseley, Jamo, and Hooker) ranked will enter week 1 healthy barring something new happening. That’s incredible fortune for any team!

Lions have had to start Dan Skipper and Logan Stenberg in recent memory due to OLine injuries. Never know what can happen…
Decker, Jackson, Ragnow, Vaitai, Sewell, Glasgow, and Sorsdal are a firm top 7 to make the roster. The 8th being whatever 3rd OT (Nelson, Ifedi, Eze) they think is best.
I’m confused about what happened to Awosika. He was receiving 1st team snaps early in training camp. Now he seems to be down the depth chart.

    • Injuries are apart of football. Anyone complaining about the Lions being hurt aren’t paying attention. This isn’t the Lions from the Silverdome where we had Mash units trying to hold the team together
      F#*K OHIO!!!

      • Lions will scour the waiver wire and practice squads to pick up some OL depth. This is a great problem to have when it seemed like yesterday that Dominic Raiola was one of our better lineman.

Yeah you’re not wrong. I like having OT to develop as losing OL completely can transform the offense. I like our being able to grind out yards when they want. I will say the Glasgow signing for the interior was GIGANTIC. That was a really important piece for Ragnow insurance

Ben Johnson being able to send out whatever scheme he wants is such positive for our team. They can run it down your throats or throw the ball all over the field. The only thing we’re limited to is the long ball. Goff just doesn’t have the arm but everything else is on the table

Man he was terrible. I hated him.

            • Raiola (like Backus) would have been great pieces to a great O-line. The problem was that the Lions wanted them to be (and acted like they were) the anchors, and it was never going to work out that way.

              • Dirty Dom's big issue was he talked to the media far more than his talent warranted. In that sense he was similar to Brandon Inge. Both were OK players on a team for a long time that occasionally were really good, but talked entirely too much. Flipping off the fans didn't help. And when he did that tough pregame tunnel posturing, taunting the opposing team isn't a good look when your team is like 1-11.

I truthfully can't remember anything Backus said and he was the better player.

                • Dom's ability was allegedly in his smarts, just how good he was at making calls along the line. Which as far as I could tell amounted to, "Yeah, I knew that DT was going to run me over right in that spot exactly when he did."

                  • All I remember about Raiola was him getting flattened by the Packers nose tackle all the time, and whiffing on blocks on the 2nd tier on run plays and screens.

                          • It's also one thing to have your whole backup line starting and and another to have just one or two of them filling in playing with better players next to them.

Yeah. I like the idea of giving the RG job to Big V and then maybe using Glasgow as the 6th OL (Nelson has looked bad) and also use Glasgow to back up either Ragnow or Big V because we know one of them is going down at some point. Glasgow played C and G for us in the past.
"Yeah, we just... we don't want them to go. So that's our motivation."

That’s prob the way it’ll play out. There’s still more flexibility there as well since V can play RT as well.
