Other then Barcly, not sure about spelling, I don’t think too many backs will make it to second contract. But you will only be able to afford so many anyway. Just the way the NFL is now days.
To dream to have a team like the 70’s Steelers for 10 years.
* I think Holmes has been working on his "man" to sentence ratio. Good progress there. DC has some work to do though, but it sounds genuine coming from him.
* For some reason I get a kick out of Barry Sanders introducing himself. "Hi, I'm Barry". As if anyone doesn't know that.
You ain't lying on those.
I lol'd when Barry introduced himself like that.
F#*K OHIO!!!

I'm still confused about the decision that "concussion" sounds so bad that somehow "brain injury" is better.
I thought the same thing

Though clearly edited to show everything in the best light possible, couple things I took away ....

* Is it weird that I thought Sheila was generally the least cringy person on the calls?

* Barry talking basketball to Gibbs in the car ride is, unfortunately, on brand.
* I now believe that the Lions truly had their first 4 picks rated in the 1st round. It does mean their board was quite a bit different than most others. Is their scouting process that much better or are they just trying to be the smartest in room by being different? We shall see.
* My favorite pick of the draft is Jack Campbell. I've been wishing for a great LBer for a long time. They've had so many disappointments at this position.
* The predraft interviews were ... wild. The coach snatching Campbells notes ... WTF?
* Didn't like the Gibbs pick as there's almost zero chance he makes it to a second contract. But there's a good chance he contributes alot and relatively cheaply for a few years. Definite "win now" kinda pick and I don't mind that.
The first 4 picks in Gibbs, Campbell, LaPorta, and Branch all seem to be doing well in camp too. Splitting time with the 1s at the very least. My draft weekend perception was selecting guys with a high floor at lower valued positions (RB, ILB, TE, nickel/S). Seems like we’re seeing that high floor factor with how they’re contributing early. Hopefully it translates to high level success for the Lions in the near future.
Very gentlemanly behavior of Jack Campbell to hold the door open for people as he arrived in Detroit.
When running backs are good they are very important, maybe making it to the second contract isn't the most important objective when you are picking for that position.
I didn't know that either. How confusing do his parents want that household when they're yelling out names.
I'm number 5 of 6. Many times when my mom wanted one of us to come over she would call out every name and then say "whichever one you are get over here".

To be honest I think the Gibbs pick was the Lions pushing their chips in to win now with Ben Johnson. I have to believe that Johnson is going to deploy him smartly like NOLA did with Kamara.
Alvin Kamara is going into his 7th season and he’s still playing at a high level. The Saints obviously had the luxury of a HoF QB but they also didn’t overwork Kamara like Gurley and Zeke were.
Kamara didn’t hit the 200 carry mark until his 5th and 6th seasons, instead working as a RB / WR. I think Ben Johnson will be smart with him but it’s also like you said it’s an important position to have for an offense. Not making a second contract might be something they can live with if the wins start piling up sooner

Win now is a mindset I can appreciate. The timing is right. No one in the NFC is that far ahead of the Lions when they show up. I feel like they can beat Philly 4 times out of 10 and the 49ers QB situation is questionable. Really just figure out how to slow down mobile QBs and the Lions will be much better.
"Yeah, we just... we don't want them to go. So that's our motivation."

Love to see Onwuzurike trending in the right direction. Especially considering how we didn’t know if he would be practicing prior to training camp. If the Lions keep a DT4, interesting battle between B Jones, Onwuzurike, and Covington.
Brian Branch keeps popping up in headlines. There’s going to be a ton of teams that regret passing on him

Well NFL teams either don't agree with you, or they believe good (or good enough) RBs are easy to find.
Maybe. High production, fresh legs, relatively cheap for 3-4 years ... yeah, worth the pick for a team trying to win now if the juice is there.
Maybe, but we've seen 20 years of disposable running backs who have sucked balls in Detroit. The running backs have been a problem. Even last year they weren't that good. Swift was good but he was very limited due to injury concerns.
The Giants franchised Barkley, they clearly think he is worth the money rather than try their luck with a bargain basement running back.
I grinned through the entire thing. Between that and Hard Knocks last year, I smiled more about the Lions since Holmes and Campbell showed up than have in the last 50+ years.
