The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won our division more recently than we have. The last time we won our division, tampabaybuccanneers.com was completely available to buy. Hell, hardly anyone had even heard of the interwebs.
Monica Lewinsky hadn't so much as fluttered her eyes at Slick Willy. OJ Simpson dominated the news cycle. The Simpsons TV show was actually funny and in its prime. Osama bin Laden was not only alive, he was not even wanted by the FBI or CIA. You could literally say the N word on TV all day long and nobody would bat an eye, but if you said "shit" then everyone lost their minds. You could say the F word all day long as well, but dare saying "fuck" and you would be sued into oblivion.
But I'm feeling like this is our year."Yeah, we just... we don't want them to go. So that's our motivation."
Dan Campbell at Green Bay, January 8, 2023.

Plus, the Lions have been rebuilding for 60 years, so I think 6 is more than optimistic!
The problem with the Lions is that they kept hiring guys who were bad and would hire coaches who were worse. Giving the terrible GMs an out and thus extending their stays 3-5 years longer then they should have.
3-4 years. If the team isn't continually getting better and a playoff mainstay? Cut ties and start over. This group is in year 2 and look at what we are hoping to see. A growth of 4-6 wins is nothing to sneeze at in the NFL. But, this is also the easiest part because the league loves parity.
The next 2 steps: Consistent Playoff team and SB contenders are way more difficultTrickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Dan Campbell: 'I'm Ready to Unleash Hutch'
Detroit Lions are ready to showcase their new young talent on the defensive side of the football.- JOHN MAAKARON
- 59 MINUTES AGO
Two new pieces of the defense, Aidan Hutchinson and Malcolm Rodriguez, have excited the fanbase, due to their potential to step in and play at a solid level their rookie season.
“Oh, it’s awesome. On and off the field, he’s just a great teammate, great individual. Like I said, he’s not a rookie. He’s really not," Charles Harris said about Aidan Hutchinson. "You’d think he’d be in the league as long as me, in terms of his recovery, the way he carries himself on and off the field, how his attention to detail is. But it’s very helpful, not just for myself but for the team, for the d-line to have a guy like that within our arsenal.
“You’ve got to play all of us," Harris continued. "So that’s the way it goes on gameday, so we’re looking to wreak some havoc this year for sure.”
Appearing on 97.1 The Ticket Tuesday morning, head coach Dan Campbell expressed his desire to "unleash" Hutchinson in the regular season.
"I love Rodrigo and I like this kid," Campbell said. "He's exactly what we're all about, but I'm ready to unleash Hutch."
Options to replace Halapoulivaati Vaitai
Unfortunately for Detroit's offense, Halapoulivaati Vaitai will not be available for at least the first month of the season.
Despite being disappointed, Campbell expressed the team will "overcome" one of their first obstacles faced this season.
"This is nothing for us," said Campbell. "We'll overcome this. We'll be fine."
There are young players the team could look to in order to fill the void, but Campbell also expressed the possibility of rotating players to play right guard.
"We can kick (Penei) Sewell down to guard. We can bump (Matt) Nelson up. We can move Frank (Ragnow) over. We can put Jonah (Jackson) right, Logan (Stenberg) left. We can bring (Tommy) Kraemer back up to right guard," Campbell said. "We got options. We're going to make this work. It hurts to lose Big V. He was a big part of what we did. He was a great team guy and will still be in the building. That's life in the NFL and we move on, but we'll be okay."#birdsarentreal

Dan Campbell: We haven’t hid from last year’s “embarrassing” loss to Eagles

When Detroit played Philadelphia last year, the Lions suffered their worst loss of the season.
The Eagles won the Week Eight contest 44-6 — the only time the Lions failed to score double-digit points in 2021.
Philadelphia rushed for 236 yards in that game. Detroit managed only 228 total yards.
On Monday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said the team hasn’t hidden from what happened last year and that he expects the Eagles to try and exploit the same issues.
“I mean, it was embarrassing. It was an embarrassing loss,” Campbell said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “They let us have it, they rubbed our nose in it and that’s — listen, man, they came in and did everything that they wanted to do, they did to us, times 10. So I think we’ve acknowledged that and we understand that that’s what they’re coming back for.
“If I’m them, I’m doing the same thing. We’re going to come back and attack you the same way and see if you fixed any of your problems.”
But Campbell also called the game a sort of turning point for Detroit. That game was the Lions’ last before the bye week, after which Campbell made some changes that eventually helped the team finish 3-3 in the last six weeks.
“It opened our eyes to some things and I think it forced us to really — well, it forced us to have to make some changes both sides of the ball,” Campbell said. “We had to do things differently ’cause where we were going wasn’t going to cut it. Yeah, it’s somewhat a blessing in disguise, I guess. You make the most of something that’s a negative, you turn it into a positive, and I felt like we did that to a certain extent.”
It’s a new year and both teams are different. But Week One could be a significant measuring stick as to how much Detroit has improved over the 2022 offseason.

Lions put Halapoulivaati Vaitai on IR, claim Drew Forbes

Lions right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai will miss at least the first four games of the regular season.
The Lions announced that Vaitai has been placed on injured reserve on Monday. The nature of Vaitai’s injury isn’t known, but he did miss practice time last week.
With Vaitai out of the picture for the next few weeks, the Lions will have to make a change to their starting lineup. Logan Stenberg and Tommy Kraemer were the backup guards on the 53-man roster and the team added Drew Forbes as a waiver claim to fill Vaitai’s roster spot.
Forbes was a 2019 sixth-round pick by the Browns and he’s played in three games since entering the NFL.

Dan Campbell has “eagerness” to call Lions offensive plays, but hasn’t decided to do it
Posted by Josh Alper on September 5, 2022, 2:24 PM EDT

Lions head coach Dan Campbell called the team’s offensive plays for the second half of the 2021 season and he’s not ready to say if he’ll be continuing in the role this year.
The Lions hired Ben Johnson as their new offensive coordinator after parting ways with Anthony Lynn and he called the plays this preseason and Campbell said Monday that he feels Johnson is ready to do in the regular season as well. Campbell added that he feels the same way about himself and “we’ll find out” what the team decides to do when they face the Eagles in Week 1.
“I mean, maybe, maybe not, I don’t know,” Campbell said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “I’ll be honest with you, I’m just not quite there yet. I mean, I still have this eagerness to want to call it myself and so I’m just — man, it’s going to be. I don’t know. Pretty good.”
The Lions were 25th in points scored during the 2021 season and any improvement on that front will be a welcome part of the effort to improve in the standings as well.

5 reasons why the Lions are expecting big improvement on defense
After finishing amongst the NFL’s worst last year, the Detroit Lions defense could see a big turnaround in 2022.
My biggest expectation of improvement on defense is Hutch. Like Barry and Calvin and Staff; you don't know how good he is until you have to deal with him for 60 minutes. I am sure OL will scout him and have a game plan, but what he does is fairly unique. His lateral movement and how he keeps his whole body in motion is hard to deal with as an OL. And kind of frustrating. I think he will force a couple of holding calls (which as we know can be drive crippling too) a game too.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice.
