I don’t know if it’s been discussed somewhere, but the CB depth looks thin/ top heavy after the draft IMO. Lions have a number of guys that can handle the nickel spot.
Outside CB though. Sutton, Moseley, and Jacobs? … we’re not sure when Moseley will be back from the ACL injury. Spooky idea to try Will Harris there again. Also, we were sold on the idea that Sutton would move all around the defense.
Very thin! Maybe I’m wrong here, but wish we had one more guy that we could count on. The Seahawks drafting Witherspoon could be a factor here. Perhaps should have waited to trade Okudah… IDK.

- Josh Rosen, best QB in 2018.
- Teez Tabor, awesome pick!
- Jahvid Best, most exciting “my #1 wishlist guy” draft pick ever.
- Drew Stanton, pretty cool pick.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

Meanwhile, it seems Okudah had lost the faith and confidence of the franchise. If you've given up on a guy, there's no point keeping him around.Last edited by chemiclord; April 29, 2023, 09:47 PM.

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

… Unless Moseley’s recovery goes extremely well and there’s nothing to worry about. I just hope Sutton stays healthy in 2023.
If there’s one position I really wish the Lions drafted… it’s a CB that can play on the outside.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

And it doesn't seem like the Lions were alone in that relative assessment, and CB really kinda demonstrated the very different draft boards that GMs had in comparison to the draftniks. Forbes and Gonzalez went #16-17... but Porter (considered to be part of that top tier of talented corners) dropped out of the first round entirely. Ringo, a guy the draftniks loved (I didn't see too many mocks that had him outside of Round 2) dropped all the way to the fourth.

Admittedly, I follow mock drafts closely. But the sports media unanimously views the Lions' draft as the poorest of all 32 teams.
I believe they could have taken Gonzalez at # 12 (or Forbes) and still have gotten their other picks at 18 (Gibbbs), 34 (Campbell), 45 (La Porta), and 68 (Hooker). Brian Branch ran a 4.58. Does the name Teez Tabor ring a bell?
Hendon Hooker is 1 1/2 years younger than Goff. We needed a backup QB, I understand that, but why a guy who will probably last less time in the league than the guy you have?
There is a lot to NOT like about this draft, including giving away a fine running back. Does anyone here think the Lions will use just two primary backs this year? Swift would have gotten plenty of touches in his CONTRACT YEAR, and he had that incentive to play well.
Lions better make hay with the money they saved by giving away Swift and Okukah. Don't bet on it.

If they use Brach like the previous coaching staffs used Tabor, then it's a problem. But right off the jump I think he is going to be used as a nickel/FS type.
They did have 6 picks in the first three rounds and 4 of them might be productive right away. That matters more than draft grades that have no correlation to future success. Nobody knows and nobody goes back to check on the previous hot takes.

I obviously really liked Teez Tabor coming out of college. Tabor and Branch are completely different players. I wouldn’t worry too much about the speed, though maybe you can say Branch won’t give you the best coverage ability in the world. That’s not the purpose of drafting him. Branch makes up for it with how smart he is, instincts, and quickness that shows up better on film. Branch’s role will be designed to give help in the box and at nickel. Swiss army knife of a secondary except for on the outside. Some similarities to CJGJ, who signed a 1 year contract.
Remember… Teez Tabor ran an unofficial 4.75 40 and I completely ignored it. Oops! We all learn.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

Well, the evidence suggests you're absolutely dead wrong on pretty much your entire assessment. It looks the furthest Gibbs was dropping was #15, and Campbell looks like he would have been gone somewhere in the 20s, for starters.
The Raiders were likely taking whichever TE the Lions didn't, so LaPorta isn't going to be there at 45, either.
I think anyone who was basing their opinions on the mock drafts (especially this year) was basing their opinions on bullshit. The draftniks had no fucking clue.
