  • Trying to come up with a list of why Lions fans started to question Williams’ maturity now that we can publicly acknowledge it. I might be missing some examples or slightly off on these:
    - The daily 4am instagram posts,
    - Other social media antics like immediately tweeting about the #1 jersey after Okudah was traded.
    - Not meeting up with Goff, St. Brown, and others for random offseason workouts to build chemistry. (EDIT: Jamo did attend at least one workout with Goff and others this year from what I can gather)
    - Not seeing pictures of Williams at OTAs on Monday or Tuesday. Holmes confirmed Williams was there on Wednesday and that’s it.

He’s not a bad person or anything. It’s just part of being a young kid. Sucks because we all want Williams to succeed and this 6 game suspension hurts the Lions. Need to see more value from draft moves like that. Hopefully this is the last issue. I think we’re getting close to suspect that Williams can’t be relied on going forward if anything else happens….

    • I think Holmes/Campbell sort of kind of gently calling him out with their offseason comments is at the top of that list. You could argue it was a run of the mill comment, but it didn’t seem like it. Maybe that’s because of the other minor stuff already piling up, but it certainly put a bit of a spotlight on it.

      • 6 games seems pretty harsh when the infraction wasn’t what he beat on, but where he was when placing the bet

And with all the American professional sports leagues in bed with gambling openly nowadays, I'm surprised that something like this isn't happening on a daily occurence.

Gambling can be like a bad disease, and when you get young men that suddenly have more money than they've ever had, it can snare them very quick.

Williams needs to take a good hard and long look at himself during the 6-game suspension and see whether he wants to have an NFL career or not.

          • The leagues for so long were anti gambling and for good reason. But now that it is here they see a revenue stream but they have to be hardasses about it and probably more than they were before FanDuel, FanDuel, draft kings, etc..

            • St Brown, Reynolds and Jones will be good. I wonder if he’ll appeal to push it out
              F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

              • Will the players lose money?

Oh yes. Williams cost himself at least $382,906 in salary, according to Overthecap.com. He will also have his remaining salary guarantees voided, meaning he essentially will be playing year-to-year, as the Lions could cut him anytime entering the upcoming seasons with no cap ramifications. Williams "could be subject to bonus forfeiture of $862,179 if the Lions have the ability to recover any bonus money due to the suspension," according to Overthecap.

This is from an article in Freep......If he has anymore issues the Lions can cut him with no cap ramifications?

                  Dam!
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Another thing he did was publicly lobbying for Lamar Jackson to come play for the Lions....Its like he and Goff have never been on the same page.

                    • Anyone still thinking Holmes/Campbell won't draft an immature player?

I think this gets reduced to 3-4 games on appeal

I don't agree with that. I think the Lions need to pick a top-flight receiver with the # 18 pick.

At draft time last year, the Lions needed a speedy receiver so badly that they traded up to pick Williams at # 12.

Since then they have lost Chalk.

One of two things is going to happen with Williams. Either he becomes a pro receiver or he does not. Either way, the Lions need to replace Chalk.

I think the Lions have to appeal the punishment as too harsh since he was not gambling on NFL games.

                          • It wasn't NFL games and it was done during voluntary workouts, not even any official team attendance.

I suspect the 6 games will get appealed down, but we'll see.

                            • Still a rule. It's stupid but the player's union agreed to it.

                              • Which brings me to the question. Why not fantasy? Players routinely play in fantasy football leagues (including posting it on social media). That's ok but betting on a different sport is a big No No?

Whta if the said player needs an opposing player to score a TD?

That is a really dumb rule.
