As long as the Lions don’t go to the extreme end of this voided contracts spectrum (like the Saints), it’ll make me feel better.
Seems like the Lions are being pretty smart with it. Isn’t out of control at this time.
For a team that can compete this year, that’s fine.

I just saw Justin Rogers mentioned ~$19.7M in cap space, which is similar to Spotrac’s estimate that takes rookie contracts into account.
So basically, the Lions have cushion to make another move if they want to…

That tweet should include Vatai's restructure. OTC has it at 26 free with Vatai's restructure. Rogers has it at 18 but is already subtracting the the rookie contracts. The rookie pool should be around 11 million, but only about 8 million should count against the cap.
For references, the Lions went into the training camp with about 10-15 million in available space. They should be close to done now until after the draft.Last edited by froot loops; March 23, 2023, 11:05 AM.

So if people said the Lions had ~$21M in cap space a few days ago… that leaves the Lions with what, ~$28M? Something near that.

Lions right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai will play another year in Detroit after agreeing to a pay cut.
The Lions and Vaitai have agreed to reduce his base salary from $9.4 million to $3 million for the 2023 season and make 2024 a void year, according to multiple reports.
That gives the Lions some salary cap relief and gives Vaitai a chance to have a good season in Detroit this year and then hit free agency next year, a year earlier than he would have. The Lions likely would have cut Vaitai if he hadn’t agreed to the pay cut.
The 29-year-old Vaitai was a 2016 fifth-round pick of the Eagles who has undeniable talent but has struggled to get on the field and stay on the field consistently. Last year he missed the entire season after suffering a back injury in the preseason finale.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Lions linked to every big name DT!! Why not?
Quinnen Williams, DeForest Buckner, Aaron Donald, and Jeffrey Simmons. Let’s get them all.
The only crazy DT trade that I view as realistic is for Ed Oliver. Unlikely, but you never know. At least we all agree that the Lions need at minimum one more DT… of which they most likely address in the draft.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill
