When they are calling in plays from New York, it is not stopping the flow. They are clearly changing fumbles and interceptions within 15-20 seconds. The calls have been instantaneous without going to a lengthy review process. That running into the kicker was clear and obviously wrong and was evident to anybody watching within one view of a replay. The league called in before the next play to kick out Quay Walker after the refs initially just gave him an unsportsmanlike.

The lack of consistency is the biggest issue to me. They put in the work to clearly define a catch. Now clearly define a roughing the passer/kicker, taunting, holding etc. When the rules themselves are subjective its going to cause issues.
Then from there there's no reason each game shouldn't have eyes on each play to catch clearly incorrect calls based on those guidelines.

In the year 2022, the technology is there and being used, to be better. They need to be better. With all the gambling that's legal now, they shouldn't want any sign of impropriety, yet...Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Yeah. It's nice when they catch it. Correct it. And move the game along. I saw (I think it was last week, but I can't remember) a coach threw his red flag and challenged it, but he lost the challenge. I thought it wasn't really smart because they had to had already reviewed it to change it. Why throw your challenge away because it went against you.
Maybe they'll make it like TDs/Change of possession where you can't challenge. To save a coach from himselfTrickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

But that would make too much sense.I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

What do you mean, you think that having the referee discussing with his crew, running over to the sideline, putting on a headset, watching several replays on a tiny monitor isn't efficient?
A sky judge should be in place and should automatically review TDs, turnovers, and dead ball personal fouls and then any coaches challenges. I also think they should let coaches challenge some more things, like roughing the passer, running into the kicker and punt catch interference. If you want to give wide latitude to officials to err on the side of protecting players, then you should have a mechanism to reverse it if you make a mistake.

I think the challenge system should be tossed in the bin. At the very least it should be minimized, it shouldn't be a strategy to get a call right. The original system they used in the early 90s was better.
I don't quite get what is the difference of the concept of the sky judge is compared to what they are doing with the calls in New York.

Should be pretty simple.I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

Dumping challenges would make sense, but I highly doubt that happens. Think the NFL likes that as part of the drama/coaching strategy and puts the onus more on coaches to do something about a bad call rather than the refs. Of course it decisively benefits the home team that can run giant screen replays or not depending upon if the replay benefits the home team or not.
I've largely liked the way the college replay process works (outside of a lot of the bullshit targeting), though they still miss stuff.
