That is a little bit different though. Booting across the wire you are still booting a whole system. It sounds like what google's OS is doing is just booting a bare bones OS that loads up a browser and then nothing else unless you load it. Its a far cry from Windows which boots everything into its memory.

most current linux or windows based system only require 128MB to boot and run any apps.

google is running browser based apps instead of requiring a back end system to run it but there are many applications that run in a php based web page environment.

Google will take it to the home user, and introduce a new SLA for thin computing and while i hope successful, it will pose for some interesting headlines when users can do squat for 9 hours because comcast if having issues and mom can't edit her baby pictures for grandma.

Update on the HTPC for anyone following that discussion here I added a second TB drive to the system and I'm backing up Blu-Ray. Saw my first blu ray movie last week "Wolverine"

Upgraded the Netflix subscription to rent those now as well.

May I ask what kind of HDTV you are using?

G - It's a Panosonic 42" 720p "monitor" that has expansion slots for HDMI, DVI, etc. I purchased it with the DVI card initially b/c my receiver can do Dolby DTS but can't handle HDMI. using the DVI interface let me keep DTS via optical audio, using DVI for the HD Video.

Little did I know then that I'd be using it with an HTPC. I'd love a 1080p LED, but blu ray and other Hi Def content @ 720p is pretty darn impressive.

Although mine is seagate, and I'll keep buying them for mainstream drives, Western Digital has re-emerged as a vendor of choice. I bought two of their internal 1 TB drives and they are speedy and quiet.
