I did get an upgraded hauppauge hvr 1250 and am using Windows Media Center in my PC. It's slick. Still debating on building an HTPC.

In other news I shelled out $$$ for a 32 GB iphone 3gs....wow is it faster. Can't wait til OS 4.0 gets released, jailbroken, and unlocked...

      • ummm, still just sticking with a 3 year old desktop, but I did update to IE8. Now it only takes me 1.5 seconds to view. If I could only afford to upgrade so I could open in 0.8 seconds, I could save 4 minutes a day in my life if I open only 350 pages a day. I could save myself 24 hours a year! My oh my, what am I thinking?

            Try Firefox.

            Much better for desktops.

            • So funny story. Our comcast bill shot up to $200 dollars because it was past the 12 month intro period. So we sent the roommate who's name is on the bill to go in and negotiate it down. That failed so we canceled Comcast.

That's when we switched to Uverse. Found it to be the worst possible solution ever to a house hold filled with HD tv's. Seriously the Uverse is absolute junk. We canceled it within a day of having it.

So we get the smart idea I would sign up for Comcast. That way we would get our old deal or something close to it. It worked out well, though we will have to suffer with Uverse for the next 10 days or so.

But I have a little Twitter chain for my close and quite offensive friends, we use that as basically a dirty Facebook. I basically posted on there that to get hooked up I was going to be violated. I said this because it was going to be well over $200 for the initial hookup.

That's when I get a response back on twitter from a Comcast rep asking if she could help me with anything. It took 4 minutes for a comcast rep to find and respond to a twitter post that had like 5 followers.

They started releasing the 3D TVs over here in March or April...and no one is buying them.

I'm waiting to see how the new Sharp 3D screens look, because you don't need to wear any glasses with them. They're going to put one in the next Nintendo DS, but I also read they're going to try them in laptops as well.

Wait until the bugs and consumer feedback makes later models better.

                    • I'm waiting to see what Nintendo does with it. Their DS systems aren't very expensive (relatively), so if the 3D screen one doesn't get out of control as far as prices I'll probably pick one up.

Here's a link talking about the small screen one: http://en.akihabaranews.com/42041

                        • I'm thinking of purchasing a Kindle. While I'm deployed I usually read 20 - 30 books, depending on OPS Tempo. At home not as much, still I read though. on average i'll be deployes 6 months out of the year so i think it would be a good investment. Comment: Insert Below

                            • Good thinking, Slif! I would have forgotten to mention that. Please do, Dad. It doesn't cost you anything more but helps support the costs associated with this place.

I bought a Kindle like a year or so ago. I love it and it's easy to grab a new book with it. That said, it does take some adjusting to. It doesn't quite feel as beloved as a good book would, if you follow me. I also did a trial with the Detroit Free Press and found the Kindle version of the newspaper lacking. Books are cheaper with it, but not a LOT cheaper. Sometimes, I wish you could buy the paper version and they'd give you the Kindle version for free as an option.

                              • as much as I hate apple, an ipad may work out for you, since it can read e-books in every format. this would give you a much larger selection of books to choose from
