  • BSOD on boot (from my experience) usually is hardware related. There should be some sort of description of the error and an alpha numeric code on the screen. If you see it again, write it down and post it. Helps to know what make/model your pc is as well...

    • It's a 2005 Dell but not sure which one. Running Windows XP. The code I got on the BSOD was:

      IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

So who signed it, Bill Gates!! I'm just toying with buying it. Currently running XP but it's getting a bit slow, so instead of reinstalling I might just get Windows 7 amd install that especially as it's quite cheap for a full version on pre-order.

                  • Steve Ballmer signed it. If things every calm down here, I plan on installing it this weekend.

Good luck with driver support Deb..biggest challenge thus far...it will be interesting to see what is and is not supported once 7 goes live.

                      • you cannot just upgrade from XP to 7

dirty secret, it will upgrade fine from Vista, but XP >> 7 requires a format and reinstall of all your porn.....

The driver models really haven't been changed between the vista and 7 (though I think the issues with Vista have been overblown) so it shouldn't be an issue.

                          • That's what I figured also, Top.

I had the Win7 release candidate on a separate partition and had no problems.

Is there a specific file or device it refers to. Because if it does you might just need to update a driver.

                              • I'm back online! The work he did to speed things up paid off. It is soooo much faster than before.

Last night I did not get the BSOD but wasn't on long. I did get the BSOD once this morning and it happened right after I plugged my speakers in and rebooted. I did get it to run again after booting with speakers unplugged. Tech guy and I discussed and he suggested maybe a short in a cord and one of my cats does chew on electrical cords. I haven't inspected the wires yet but everything is currently running fine. Yea.
