That said, given how much costs have come down since I bought in 2006, unless there is a real price difference in what you are loking at, I WOULD buy 1080p simply to have it.

Has anyone else been watching Venus and Jupiter? They become visible just before dark. Look in the SW sky just before dusk and you'll see Venus pop up, then right at dusk look a little more toward (about 35-40 degrees off) the horizon and you'll see Jupiter.

As you probably know, Jupiter is the solar system's largest planet, but it appears smaller than Venus because it's so much further away. Also, we're not seeing Jupiter because it's on our side of the system as close as it can be, we're actually seeing it on the other side of the sun, which amazed the hell out of me when I realized it a day or two ago.

At the end of Nov 08, the two planets appeared to be really close to each other and our moon.

I think a 42'' plasma is the way to go. Plasma'a are bright from all seating positions, while I have sat off to the side of an LCD and was unable to see it well (an LCD is like a computer screen).

720p vs 1080 is indistinguishable by the human eye.

Even a blue ray looks spectacular on a 720P.

A panasonic plasma has been consistantly rated near the top in comsumer reports.

Some LCDs are better than others when it comes to the side viewing thing. I have my treadclimber to the side of my TV and the picture is just fine.

Rommy, be sure to test the viewing distance thing as well as the side view when you go to the store.

Dan, I have no problem with side viewing on my Samsung LCD's. I think that was an issue with early LCD's, and a lot of the projection TV's. What pushed me in the direction of the LCD was a concern for plasma's losing their color and having to be "recharged" at some point. I didn't really check it out so maybe that is just an urban legend, but like Deb, I don't have any trouble with my LCD's.

It is 720p but you really don't need the 1080 untei you get to 46"+. My Sony is a great set if you decide to go smaller.

BTW, I have read a few complaints about Vizio, with the main one being that there are no local repair facilities. You have to ship a Vizio to factory in California if you have any problems with it. (It is the only American made set that I know of, however)

I don't buy "songs". I listen to albums.

Many of my albums are obscure and most likely not avaiable anywhere. Even if they were available at @10 bucks per album, it would cost over a grand to buy them. I can probably download them all for a few hundred dollars tops.

CGVT ... I have been able to find most of my vinal collection online: I have a record player that plays vinal - 33,45,78, and still use it from time to time. There are some vinal records that I have that are not available online. Because I play in two bands, I purchased a digital recorder, and have used this to put some of my "obsecure" vinal on CD. Be happy to help if I can.
